An observation.
The  driver of China's dishonorable trade behavior isn't Communism.
Culturally they have been ruled by autocratic dynasties since around
2,000 BC which formed their temperament as a nation/state.
This stifled any individualistic impulse which is a core trait necessary
for capitalism to succeed.
They behave as they do because it's ingrained in their culture/society.
Were communism gone from China today, they would continue their
current behavior.

Wait a second...didnt the chinese invent all sorts of things like the wheelbarrow, the crossbow, the water thing(that they walk on to water their fields), and even an earthquake detector?

But generally I agree with you. Is communism in practice really any different than the mandate of heaven? Both are totalitarian. Thier president is just their new emperor. And once trump causes all sorts of disaster for them the peasants will revolt and install a new emperor.

The strong economy is a steroid shot in allowing us to decouple from China.  By the time they come crawling, begging for a deal, everyone will be gone.

QuoteStanley is investing $90 million to open a plant in Fort Worth, Texas, by late next year that will employ about 500 people to make 10 million Craftsman wrenches and ratchets and 50 million sockets annually. Robots and fast-forging presses will help boost output about 25% above the older forging machinery now used to make Craftsman wrenches in China, helping keep production costs at the new plant in line with those in China, Stanley said.

Japanese Companies Move Production to India From China as US Tariffs Hit

https://www.theepochtimes.com/japanese-companies-move-production-from-china-to-india-as-us-tariffs-hit_2926080.html

QuoteSeveral Japanese companies are moving some of their production lines out of China, in a move to avoid paying for current U.S. tariffs on Chinese-manufactured goods, as well as possible future tariffs—as there is no sign of an imminent trade deal between Beijing and Washington.

Southeast Asian countries such as Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam have already become alternative production sites for many tech manufacturers since U.S. tariffs were first announced in March 2018, in an ongoing trade dispute with China about its alleged intellectual property theft and unfair trade practices.

India is also becoming a popular alternative to China.

Quote"We expect the significant shift of manufacturing out of China to be a multi-year trend and a potential golden opportunity for India," wrote Gautam Chhaochharia, the head of Indian research at investment bank UBS, in an opinion article published by The Economic Times on May 10.

He explained that the trend of moving away from China would continue even if a trade deal is to be signed, citing India's attractiveness as a manufacturing destination, such as the ease of doing business.

China of all places, needs to be realistic about manual labor. Automation is a job killer, and not dealing fairly is killing them 3 fold.
First off companies are leaving China, companies that have been there for decades, established a business model that was based on cheap labor intensive production, most of these industries were eyeing the future towards getting away from manual labor to automation anyway.
So what did China do? They shot themselves in both feet. They could have had an guaranteed industry moving towards automation, building automation for the rest of the world.
So not only do they lose one industry, they lose a second and a shot at preserving their business model, they just shipped off their job mkt, and guaranteed it will never ever return.
This was not the time for them to allow their Chinese pride, racism and arrogance to get in the way, this was the time to join the rest of the world and play by a fair and established way of doing business trade.

China just cemented their fate. They were in recession, now they'll be in a solid depression. They have but two options, continue to be assholes and suffer their fate, or come back, hat and ass in hand begging for forgiveness.
I'm betting on change coming quickly in China and  they'll swallow their pride and come back begging.

The latest is China is signaling they may leverage their rare Earth materials production, required for electronics components.  The usual suspects in the media are saying they have Trump in a box, and we might as well surrender and go back to the way things were.

The reality is Trump anticipated this and issued an executive order in 2017:

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/energy-environment/wp/2017/12/19/zinke-wants-to-expand-critical-minerals-production-saying-we-are-vulnerable-as-a-nation/

QuotePresident Trump signed an executive order Wednesday instructing his deputies to devise "a strategy to reduce the Nation's reliance on critical minerals" that are largely imported and used to produce everything from smartphones to weaponry.

The directive comes a day after the U.S. Geological Survey published its first assessment of the country's critical minerals resources since 1973, an analysis the agency began in 2013. The report concludes that 20 out of the 23 critical minerals the nation relies on are sourced from China.

"The United States must not remain reliant on foreign competitors like Russia and China for the critical minerals needed to keep our economy strong and our country safe," Trump said in a statement.

Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke, who has backed expanded mining production on federal land, has lobbied the White House to make the issue of critical minerals a top policy priority. He briefed reporters on the new USGS report Tuesday, saying "we are vulnerable as a nation" because we rely so heavily on imports from China.

While the United States has significant deposits of most of the critical minerals it currently buys from overseas, market considerations largely drive mining. The United States was ranked as the world's largest producer of such minerals until 1995, but since then, China has led the globe.

"It is time for the U.S. to take a leading position," Zinke said. "And it's not that we don't have the minerals in the U.S. It's likely we do."

The executive order says that the federal government will be "identifying new sources of critical minerals" and "increasing activity at all levels of the supply chain, including exploration, mining, concentration, separation, alloying, recycling and reprocessing critical minerals."

Of course, even though China is the dominate player in rare Earth materials production, there's other sources:

Man, the Chinese don't know Trump very well, do they?

Oh Good God! The left, the media and Chinese are stupid! We have these minerals, problem is the EPA regs in this country made it near impossible to mine. We have a mine here in Ca, sits in what is essentially desert coast range, no one lives there, it's freakin desolate and this guy has a large productive mine, open pit style if memory serves me..
He's been fighting to expand, because that's what you do when you mine, you follow the mineral, but both State and Fed are making it near impossible for his business to grow.

Anyway, that was under the Marxist Admin, I don't know how it is now. Point being, we have these so called rare earth minerals, which aren't all that rare, just a misnomer someone stuck on them.
This country is full of minerals, and China trying to leverage trade with but proves they are not good faith trading partners and it's time to kick their ass to the curb.

I believe in buying "value" for our goods and services. I am on my third Toyota Camry and find it an excellent value. Compared to American made cars I found it satisfied my needs especially while working as I use my car for traveling. I do use a local company for cable and internet. I could use AT&T for a little less, but willing to pay more for the local service. All customer service people are local and answer the phone in English I can understand. So to answer your question, I used the free market system and buy the best "value" for us.

I don't know that I have had to sacrifice and buy cheap Chinese shit.
I always look for American made.  Even if I have to go to the next town.  I have had my Craftsman tool for over 55+ years.  It has cost me more money up front but in the long run I come out ahead.
