Obama will never let this opportunity go to waste.  Hasn't he bragged about missed opportunities before this?  Stand back and watch him on this.  The left will cheer him on too.  i'd already made this statement on another thread before I saw this thread-sorry, you can move it if you like.  I'm horrified at this tragedy but I have learned in the past few years to not be shocked at anything that happens in today's society.  I try to talk to my children and especially my grandbabies and practically beg them not to be aloof about things that go on.  I can tell you that I am in a fight for their lives because they are hearing different stuff from, of all people, their public school teachers and their elected officials who seemingly jump on the bandwagons of whoever is in office right now.

Ever notice how these things escalate under ant-God Democrat rule.  God has been driven out of the Obama administration.  They are clearly hostile to Christian culture and fully endorse everything anti-Christian.  Is it any wonder that He has withdrawn His protection in our communistic schools?

The truth is, since the assault weapon ban expired in 2004, crime, including gun-crimes, have been reduced. I am all for back round checks, but allowing responsible folks to own guns is their constitutional right. I would argue every community should have at least 1-2 cops stationed at every school during hours and every community should have metal detectors in every school building. I do not advocate this because of guns, I advocate it because of the crazies. The truth is, the colombine tragedy was an isolated event which sparked more tragic events like it. Since that occured, we needed to beef up security at our schools. This is not a federal responsibility, though the federal government should send money back to states for this purpose. State's and local communities need to step up and figure out ways to have more police and metal detectors in schools.

Has anyone done the percentages???? 50,000,000 students in school per year, an average of I think 22 deaths per year in our schools per year. Isn't it still one of the safest places to be. Wouldn't ya have twice as good a chance of being hit by lightning?

There should be armed guards at schools and other places. If government, or businesses, have declared themselves "gun free zones" they have, in effect, become responsible for the safety of people on their property. If the city has limited the ability of citizens to protect themselves on school grounds - and publicly announced that citizens will be helpless - then they MUST provide protection for those citizens.

I don't think turning our schools into de facto prisons is the answer. This is the same kind of mentality that has TSA doing virtual strip searches of every person who boards an airliner!

If a municipality or a business declares themselves a "gun free zone" they have accepted responsibility for the safety of all persons on their property. To no make the liable for the safety of people they have reduced to helplessness is as crazy as one of the "crazies" who will eventually show up. It's not turning a school into a prison to either provide protection for the students/teachers or allow the staff to provide their own protection. It is "magical thinking" to believe that announcing your helplessness will somehow enhance your safety. Would you put your money in a bank that made it know they were ridding themselves of armed guards, alarms, bulletproof plexiglass, locked doors and vaults? As a sign of their "faith" in the public!

I believe there should be a policy that two people on a daily basis carry a piece, and those two are only required to carry over a two day period, after which, another two take over the position.

Is it too much to ask for the safety of our children?

I had this discussion with a progressive friend of mine. He insisted that if we had much stricter gun control, the guns would simply become less easily to steal/sell on the black market. Of course I disagree with this. Just look at drugs for example.

He went on to say "but smuggling drugs is different from smuggling guns." But of course, making guns is different from making drugs, too. It's not too difficult to make guns if you have a basic knowledge of it. It doesn't only become a 'smuggling' issue.

I told him how Israel's schools have armed staffs and that there has not been a school shooting since the early 1970s. "But what if one of the students gets angry and takes one of the teachers' guns?" So far, this hasn't happened.

Obama and the Left will proceed in selectively taking "what ifs" scenarios that have not shown evidence of happening or sincerely likelihoods. They will ignore the facts, the data, the numbers, the logic, and the inevitable that people are the problem.
