Title: To defend a higher minimum wage, San Fran looks at… banning robots

Ah, San Francisco... is there nothing that the nanny state can't solve with a sufficient number of business killing regulations?

Wait'll they have to pay $20. for a hamburger, when just across the bay, a bot makes it for a buck.
Left to their own devices, there won't be any business left to regulate within the talons reach of the cities limit.

All true conservatives  should be hard against govt. banning or requiring anything like this attempt by SanFran to artificially rig the economy toward a perceived bias. They mandate a wage then they have the problem that companies can't afford people so they find a way around ... like bots. That's what you get when you make changes that contradict the basic free market ... unintended consequences.

But I'd choose to pay somewhat more if a place gives a human a job over a robot, treats me with respect, and presents a nice environment. Oh ... and the food good too.

The main point isn't the robots. It's that the govt stays out and we make our own choices based on what the market offers. What's next - government sponsored and mandated restaurants?

I see a workaround for small business. A business owner sets up a small business, say, hamburger joint, makes all employees shareholders in the business, allowing them a cut in possible profits for a lower wage.
Perfectly legal, seeing how they are owners, not employees.

Just stay out of their way and let them regulate the city into total disaster. Their leftist philosophy will continue to blind them into oblivion.

Their hypocrisy, if not so disastrous, would be hilarious, but it's fatally dangerous.

So, their solution is to ban robots, enforce a $15 minimum wage which will put many business who employ hourly wage workers out of business thus increasing unemployment especially among the poor and less skilled. The very people they are supposedly trying to help. I like it. A very sound plan

Banning robots will leave the Democrats sitting at home for elections.

Where else do they vote like robots for Nancy Pelosi...?

"Ok, you've got to quit acting like a robot, and vote... come on, you can do it...."

"Arrrgh!  my brain hurts!!!"   :ttoung:

And on top of it all they're on their way to having their very own single payer healthcare system.

Yep!!  Just look at what government did with the SS money.   Single payer is a wide open bank account for the government.

I'm counting on it, it's the only way the State will wake from their drunken stupor, when it hits them in the wallet.
The only thing that's kept the state from destroying the working man, is Prop 13 Jarvis/Gand Amendment, but if they figure out a work around, where they force the Counties into coming up with the money, I could see my taxes quadruple and be facing a yearly tax bill of $20 thousand.

The left has been trying to find a workaround and nail larger landholders for the bill, if that happens, I would literally walk away, because no one would want to buy acreage that puts them in debt immediately.

I think there is a John Carpenter film here. The coastal liberal cities collapse. The state government collapses. Anarchy erupts. The rich flee the state leaving the smug yet destitute gender studies and art majors to fend for themselves. Most of those in San Francisco are wearing leather trousers. They slowly make their way to the countryside looking for someone, anyone to look after them. They are met with a shotguns, tractors and at least one chap with a wood chipper.

You play they main character, "Dutch Manifold".

Dutch is back in "Bull Dozer II"

Where he and his band of misfits driving various pieces of equipment, from lawn mowers to earthmovers, they take on an exodus of ass chap wearing liberals driving them into the Bay.
liberals around the country are protesting over the use of equipment being used in the film to simulate the destruction of California's liberals diety, the Tiny Tit Mouse who was held up as one of their first victims to be used as a weapon against the evil farmer, all the while Dutch is leaving a path of destruction on their way to the mouth of the delta where a cherished specie is about to meet thousands of Bay area riffraff in this uninvited scene as Dutch and his brigade push them into the cold muddy waters leading to the iconic Golden Gate.

Now we're talking. A chainsaw in one hand and the constitution in the other and the bible in the other (apparently you have three arms. We're gonna need some good effects people.) Dutch and his angry but responsible homeowners drive the "intellectual" but broke hordes to the coast. The liberal horde offer one last advance but their leather chaps are drying out in the California sun. They are quickly vanquished and Fred Stingo uses his tractor to drive them into the sea. The leader of the left desperately cries "You have to care for us. The constitution says we have  right to be babied. Dutch Manifold responds with "Constitution? I am the constitution"

That should be your sig line!

Meanwhile back at Lib camp HQ, the snowflakes were busily collecting bakery and doughnut shop used oil for their biofuel driven VW vans, when suddenly wild animals attacked, from bears to raccoons, they stormed the camp after having caught wind of the doughnut oil, pounced the fragile beings drenched in doughnut juice.
Many ran to an area cordoned off with yellow caution tape and a huge bright pink banner depicting "This Is A Safe Space" in rainbow colored leters, needless to say, animals have reading issues, as well as being color blind.
The carnage was not a sight for the timid, Dutch seeing the complete destruction of the camp, animals blood soaked, Dutch pulls out his trusty manifold, and with a huge deep breath, he inhales a wind storm of a gale, places his lips on the manifolds opening as Dutch blows into the manifold, and with the reminiscence of a Johnny Weismueller Tarzan call, the animals stop, line up in formation and follow Dutch and his brigade into the mountains, far from the stench of the Bay Area.

Constitution in hand, Of Course!
