The basis of this argument is completely invalid in my eyes. They are saying that the term Marijuana was used in a 'racist' tone back in the 1930s to try and deter white people from smoking the drug. Of course it was wrong back in the day, yes, but Marijuana is a universal name to describe, well, marijuana. That's how it was first introduced to me and that is what I call it when discussing it with friends.

"NowThis then vows to abolish its use of "marijuana" to reference the drug in future news stories. The alternative? Cannabis."

This is the problem I have. We start banning all of these words, the whole word becomes a safe zone. Words only have power if we allow them to. Let's not forget that fact. People call call me whatever they want and say whatever they want to me, and I just brush it off. I honestly don't get offended by 'hate' speech. If anything it's almost comical to me that someone could think a word would have so much power over me.

Where are peoples backbones these days?

My problem is that it creates a destructive culture within our society, in my eyes. No one is denying there isn't racism, there has been and probably will be on some isolated cases. Yet to sit here, and continue to feed into these racial groups ideas that they are always victims and who are being oppressed at every turn, will never allow them to grow and prosper. It's upsetting to me to see this. Beyond this whole story.

Not that I remember.     But then hell I was always called a half-breed back then.   As my dad would say, I had the best of two worlds.

Oh, I don't disargree in the least, I'm just pointing out, the left depends on victims, it's their entire base/constituency.
But for them to assume this is somehow going to affect anyone but their victim class, they have another thing coming.
The Dim party is in its deaththroes, and they are doing their best to ignore reality surrounding them. It won't be much longer.

I lived through times when "Colored", or "Negro" were perfectly respectful terms. No one was offended.

I suppose now they would be HATE SPEECH.
