My arguement for the oil resources drying up schtick:

Plastic is a by-product of oil.

So, if oil resources are drying up, why are we using a precious resource to make trash bags or water bottles or store sacks?
Yeah, the leftist in Ca pulled the same shit on paper back in the 70s and 80s, claiming we were using up natural resources and would soon run out of trees if we didn't switch to plastic bags.
So we switched to plastic, and low and behold, they are made from that evil oil the libs all hate, so they had to eat their own argument and go back to paper, but nooo, we can't do that, so suddenly hemp products became the fad, yep, hemp reusable grocery bags, and if you insisted on paper, the store would have to charge you 5 cents for every bag.

So what happens when hemp gets dirty? You must use water during a drought to clean it.
So many libs torn in so many directions over environmental guilt.

Let's not forget the way they pushed for a ban on standard Edison bulbs, forcing the use of CFLs. Of course CFLs cost more, which hurt low income families (you know - the demographic progs are supposed to be helping?) Then they realize the mercury in them was suddenly rising to toxic levels in landfills due to the forced increase in use, so now they need to be recycled, which takes more energy than is being "saved" by not using Edison bulbs.

Progs INVARIABLY shoot themselves in the foot when it comes to their agenda, be it economy, environment, "equality", whatever. They are the perfect mindless tool for Marxists.

Nor should we forget:

Electric Cars. Which are not only charged with energy derived from coal, but also have batteries which aren't best for the enviornment.

Wind Mills.  Which cause no end of problems for the bird population, including the bald eagle.

Exactly! And why did they want us to switch? Because they knew they were about to push commie green energy scam and AGW, and lighting a home could cost as much as an extra $20. a month extra, and they knew the public would never stand for that.
Stupid libs, technology was already knocking at the door with LED's, so it was only a matter of time people would voluntarily switch.
Myself, I like halogen but use LED mostly because of wattage usage being strictly on solar.

Isn't it funny? They always claim to be for the little guy, but every one of their schemes winds up punishing them the worst.
Me thinks they're lying. Nahhh, couldn't be....

Oh and that claim that Saudi was pumping sludge was more hype than anything, all designed to create fear.
What happened was they reopened an old dormant field of low-grade and it was just that, very low grade, but the rest of their fields are just fine, in fact, horizontal drilling has made many of their oldest fields new again.
If memory serves me correctly, CITI bank was behind the leak. Why would CITI leak such information?

Well, in any case, we need to have our own source of oil
so that if OPEC decides to curtail production,
we can just flip a switch and produce all we need.

Maybe Trump will persuade Ca. to open up its shale reserves.
We have what is thought to be 10 thousand plus years worth of oil locked in a strange and very deep formation of shale oil in the central valley, called the Monterey shale deposit. We even have outcroppings of it up near my area near Tahoe, though not worth drilling in my area as far as I know, but it extends to la county, and that's about 600 miles long, roughly 70 miles across.
Ca Dims know this and they wrote Legislation forbidding even experimental exploration in possibly securing it for the future.
It's a truly fascinating formation, like layering hot taffy atop itself folding back and forth, several layers thick.
\Wiki has some, but not a lot of info on it.

They put out a video, "Who killed the electric car?" - why I bought it, must have been a moment of weakness...  of course it blames the automotive industry.

A dozen or two of  them went to UWM (University Wisconsin, Madison), the professors who got them tried to wreck 'em, cause they had no heat in the winter time, and couldn't go anywhere if you forgot to plug them in.

GM pulled as many as they could back (video shows them being loaded onto a car carrier).

However.... a fellow (where, I won't say), managed to snag 3 of them, and got 2 of them running again.  Like driving a "VW Thing"... pretty good pickup, regenerative braking, all the right stuff, IMO - but the battery technology sucked.  about 45 miles range.  Debunked - the technology *wasn't* there, neither was GM *suppressing* change.

Point is, when LIBERALS are asked to use the technology they demand and legislate.... they don't, proving they are the hypocritical, elitist, snobs we always thought they were.

I get the impression both Obamas are more faithful to Islam & diminishing American influence in the world than the betterment of their own race.   I wonder if either Mooch / Barry ever sang "America the Beautiful" and shed a tear of thanks.

There is no such thing as a "Finite Amount of Oil" Peak oil is a leftist lie!
I don't know how old you are but I first heard "peak oil" back in the very late 60's.  I happened to live in Dallas  and knew a LOT of oil people thru my social contacts and my college buddies who were mostly from West Tex and were learning business in order to run daddy's company when they graduated.  In those days most of the folks I knew in the business were 2nd and 3rd generation.

As for Peak Oil, we will hit Peak Oil tomorrow much like the sign over the bar that says "Free Beer Tomorrow".

I will pass on a couple of things:

We got a lot of oil down here in Texas, we have several MAJOR shale plays that stretch across the sate.  You can google oil fields on Tx and you will find a map showing the major oil and shale fields.  A good friend who is the Sr Petro Engineer in the family oil business that goes back 2 generations showed me that map of Texas and I saw WOW.  Then they asked if I noticed anything unusual?  Of course I said nothing, Petro is not my field of engineering.  Then what they said was another WOW:  These fields DO NOT stop at the Rio Grande, they continue into Mexico.

Mexico:  Mex has used its oil profits to run the country for money years.  But now they have reached PEAK OIL which for them was any oil below 9000 ft.  WHY?  They lack the technology to drill deeper and since they have siphoned off all the oil profits and never put any money into new exploration.  As my friend said, many oil folks think Mexico may have an even bigger supply of oil than the Saudis, not one knowns for sure as the Mex. have kept everyone out of their country.  In fact in Mexico's Constitution it prohibits outside exploration and drilling.

We have more oil now in the world than any time in the past and new fields are still being found the world over.

Were I KING:  We know oil is finite, most of my contacts feel IF the govt gets out of the way we have ample supplies for the world for 75-100 years based upon current tech and known potential.

That said:  Every company in the oil business, every school that teaches in the petro sciences become a part of a coalition that funds and searches for the energy silver bullet for the years past the next 50 years.

Uhh, no it is not, it is being made by the planet as we speak, and no, there is not more oil now than ever before, just our ability to tap it, as well as new tech to extract it from newly found sources.

You are taking me out of context as I agree with you 100%.  HOWEVER the recovery costs create a finite demand curve.

I have some friends out in "The Patch"  and I was asking them about cost and profits.  I was stunned at some of their numbers.  He said we have some 'granddaddy wells' (meaning his grandfather drilled them) that they make money on at about $11 per bbl, but they only pump about 3 bbls a day, but he has a big family ranch and it has a 'lot of those'.  On the other hand they have some that if oil is not above $57 per bbl he has no profit.

The take away SOLAR is that at some point in time the costs associated with bringing a gallon of gas or diesel to a pump near you will exceed by such a margin that powering your car with wind or solar will be far cheaper than burning petro.  This economic reality creates a finite demand for the product.

My grandfather became a very wealthy man as he capitalized upon the growth in his town and area due to the influx of people.  If you wanted a horse and buggy you bought from him, needed a horse drawn plow you bought from him, he got control of the transportation business in his fast growing area...he was a smart business man, almost.

He was in total denial that that new fangled gasoline car thing would ever be popular.  It ran off gasoline and not grass which was everywhere, it was just a novelty anyhow, its range was no further than the city limits as there was no gasoline to be had, horse just need grass and water.  And as the car made more and more inroads my granddad doubled down and invested more and in other towns in the horse drawn business.

I don't think I need to go on or tell anyone that granddad died a wealthy man, just the opposite, his empire collapsed  and he along with it.  The demand dried up for the horse era.
