The South has become and remains the scape goat, the evil twin, the un-American part of the political and social experiences in North America.

Hiding behind the utterly disingenuous attack on the modern Democratic Party is a deep and abiding anti-Southern bias: rightly or wrongly slavery, racism, Jim Crow, etc. are associated with the South.  The Democratic Party bifurcated or sundered itself from the South, at least that South which embodies the alleged evils already rendered supra, at the end of the 1972 elections, giving the tilt to George McGovern, the non-Southern liberal, over the nearly assassinated George Wallace, the Southern conservative.  The South lost its place in the Democratic Party, and the Democrats have cut all ties with things Southern, although the party makes steady inroads into the waxing Americanized populace now on the territory which was once the South.  The attempt by partisan Republicans to hang the alleged sins of the South on the modern Democratic Party can be, as already stated, nothing but disingenuous.  The modern Democratic Party has nothing to do with the historical South with all of its warts, flaws and fallen manifestations, alleged or real!  We Southerners, the few of us who are left, want, in turn, absolutely nothing to do with the Democratic Party.

Democratic partisans play the same card in reverse, again, making the South the scape goat, in their attack on the Republican Party.  At its core, the Republican Party is what it has been since its inception: a party of big bankers, stock jobbers, paper aristocracy and corporatist.  That core could never be successful in a national or even regional campaign.  The GOP has always needed allies in order to win regionally or nationally.  Lincoln and his bosses allied themselves with two very diverse groups: the anti-Southern abolitionists of New England and the anti-African free soilers of the West.  By 1968, the Republicans had begun to understand that the party needed the despised South if it was going to win elections.  Out of that realization, Nixon articulated his Southern strategy which was essentially an appeal directly or by innuendo to Southern virtues and Southern vices, real or alleged.  It has worked.  Although the GOP has given the South absolutely nothing, the South like a good whore has allowed the GOP to screw her because she believes "his" lies as he masturbates into her at every election cycle, promising a marriage and kids.   The Republicans have done essentially the same thing with Christians who, like either the rats or the children of Hamlen, have thought to have heard a tune and followed it when it in fact is nothing more than the farts of the Republican Party.  Thus, in utter irony, the Democratic attack on the Republicans, i.e. the party is a safe harbor for racist Southerners as a result of the Nixon strategy, is a critique of the South as well as an attack on the Republicans.

So, both parties use the real or alleged Southernness of the other to attack each other: Democrats are racists because the party was once a Southern dominated party.  Republicans are racists because, due to the Nixon's Southern strategy, the party harbors Southerners, and Southern equals slavery, racist, Jim Crow, etc.

I suppose it is nice to be needed.  I do wish that just one day while there are still a few of us Southerns left that we would realize what has been happening to us, not the least of which is, given our martial spirit, too many of our boys have been dying in the imperial wars put on by the Democrats and Republicans, and that we would tell both of these fiendish factions to return to that place which spawned them.
