Idiot is a good start, but you've got to remember, it's an old document, it's over a hundred years old. ::) ;D ;D ;D

It is that, but it is also the foundation of a system of government that was unique in the world, up until the dilution of the civilization by the introduction of alien values.  That dilution was a direct result in many cases of the potential for a much better life and a chance to be something impossible at their point of origin.

The external influence was initially welcomed and now is one of the basis for demanding change.  That change reflected in the culture has destroyed what made this a very popular destination.  Some sought a better life here under our system, some transplanted their system under more favorable conditions, some simply wanted to destroy it.    All that remains are basic tenants and ideals which the argument they are dated is valid only so far.

All these years it has been amended to reflect alterations based on need.  So in that respect it is only as stagnant as that is obsolete.  My opinion for what it's worth which probably isn't much is that it needs to be enforced more strongly.  If it lacks binding power that is not the doing of the constitution.  That is we the people.

Case in point.  Immigration was definitely addressed.  And definitely ignored for the most part.  The binding power is lacking due to things like congress being filled with professional politicians who are one quarter the age of the document.

The problem isn't the constitution but the will to comply with it if it becomes inconvenient.  We still haven't seen the judas goat's conclusive proof of citizenship but there are plenty who want to put that down and ignore it.

Had a friend once who wondered how we could obey the thousands of laws on the books when we wouldn't obey 10 in the bible even if we professed religion.

In my recollection I think it is actually over 200 years old.  Guess he couldn't do the math in his head. :)) :)) :))
