So, you're teaching us this statement ... wait ... so it must have been a lie by this logic. Hey, now I'm teaching you something ... then that is also a lie. But now that statement was a lie and ... oh, never mind. Like a dog chasing it's tail.

"What we've got here, Luke, is a complete failure to communicate."

Hey ... here's a logic proof:

Your Claim: "Everything we learn is a lie." is equivalent to the statement "If we learn something then it is a lie."

Proof: Take the example statement, "You should make some attempt to support what you say." This is a true statement and something you should learn. But assume that the claim is true which means the example statement is a lie. So we now have that the example statement is both true and false ... which is a logical contradiction. Therefore the claim is false. (QED)

Now, I have considered your statement and it is false. Quit acting like such a spoon-fed, government dependent, Democrat and think for yourself a little.

Wait ... I think I found a flaw in the proof. There's no chance you'll learn from the example statement so the proof doesn't hold up!
Now I'm confused.
So if up is up for us, what is it if you're an Aussie, and if I travel there, is it now, down for me? If I'm in space millions of miles from Earth, which way is up? is it all a lie?

I wondered at the time what he was referring to when he made that statement. Was he at one time a disillusioned lib discovering his belief system was a lie, that he finally figured out the global warming hoax is nothing but a power grab by communists Hell bent on destroying capitalism?
Or that he thought the gop'E was actually doing things to help the nation, only to discover media created heroes like McStain the Maverick were actually leftists under the guise of conservatism?

Seriously, if he just now figured this out, I could see how he might be shocked at the fact politicians lie to get elected.
But it's the way the world works, always has, which is why we have the Constitution and Bill of Rights, because our Founders knew politicians and power go hand in hand, in a never ending quest for even more power.

I should have quizzed him at the time, but I didn't want to derail the thread.

Yep. As you allude to, without a moral compass / absolute reference there is no absolute truth. And unending power in the hands of men is unstable as you pointed out; attempts to grow without bound.

In the absence of absolute truth, people make up their own axioms ... unprovable ideas and become their own reference. Then, waa-laah ... you end up with the likes of Obama, Schumer and Pelosi - hell bent to well people on their brand of truth which is that we all need government to make things work.  Our constitution / republic is designed to shield that lie from taking us over. - but we all know from Star Trek that a shield can only hold up through so many hits until it fails. Our shields are weak and another Dim term under HilLIARy would have been rough. I'm still hoping that the Pubs will strengthen us some ... but a lot of talk and not much conservative action so far.

I'm sure as soon as he has all the answers he will be back. You can quiz him then, I for one can hardly wait.
