It wasn't too long ago, the politicians would use things like "lowest teacher salaries in the country" or "lowest property tax rate in the state" or "far lower than the national average" or "crumbling infrastructure" or "protecting the state's AAA bond rating" as justification for raising taxes.

Walks, please tell the liberals in California and New York that the tax burden is 15% for people living in Texas. Too many of them are moving here.
I moved from #4 to #40. It wasn't just TAXes that went down, so did electric rates, gasoline, food costs, rent, and a whole bunch of other things that are... well, related to high taxes!
High Taxes inflate the end-user cost of everything, because businesses don't pay taxes - it's just passed along to the consumer.
