This greatly eased the collection of the tax for both the taxpayer and the Bureau of Internal Revenue. However, it also greatly reduced the taxpayer's awareness of the amount of tax being collected, i.e. it reduced the transparency of the tax, which made it easier to raise taxes in the future..

'Nuff said.

I think we've talked about this before, but I have always been somewhat baffled by folks who brag about how much they'll be "getting back" from the federal government after filing their tax returns. It doesn't seem to occur to them that they provided that money, as a loan, for free. I mean, I always thought the old Christmas Clubs were a shitty deal, but at least they paid a percent or two. Uncle Sam takes your money and uses it as he sees fit, returns it to you only after you file complicated paperwork to get it, and then pays you nothing for the privilege.

What a deal.  :tounge:

I swear, some people never seem to realize it was their money in the first place, like banging the lottery.
If you get any money back, you're doing something wrong.
