Ted Cruz: Make El Chapo fund the US-Mexico wall!

Senator Ted Cruz, R-Texas, has introduced legislation to make an infamous Mexican criminal pay for part of the wall on the southern border. And it's a really good idea.

The Ensuring Lawful Collection of Hidden Assets to Provide Order Act, or "EL CHAPO Act," will reserve "any amounts forfeited to the United States Government as a result of the criminal prosecution of Joaquin Archivaldo Guzman Loera (commonly known as 'El Chapo') for the completion of the wall along the Southern border."

El Chapo, the former leader of the Sinaloa drug cartel, was recently extradited to the U.S. for criminal prosecution on various drug-related charges. According to Sen. Cruz, the U.S. government is currently seeking the criminal forfeiture of more than $14 billion in drug proceeds from El Chapo's alleged criminal activity. .......

...........Using El Chapo's $14 billion assets would pay for two-thirds of the wall's cost.

"By leveraging any criminally forfeited assets of El Chapo and his ilk, we can offset the wall's cost and make meaningful progress toward achieving President Trump's stated border security objectives," Cruz said. .....

Cruz was just on "Fox & Friends" explaining his plan. I like it for a couple of reasons. First, currently seized assets like these go into the general Treasury (slush fund for politicians) and this would designate its use. Secondly, and more fun, it would run democrats/leftists absolutely nuts. It would be fun watching Pelosi and Schumer rail against this.

Also, look at how much sense this makes. The very cause of the problem (drugs crossing our borders) would pay for the method to deter it. The logic is solid, but Dims aren't much about logic - just getting to their ends by any means. Congress, in general, won't back the logic either - pay their salaries, benefits, and favorite programs despite the national gap at the border and tremendous costs of illegal drugs in our country.

I realize that illegal drug smugglers / suppliers will then work to find another way in, but then we attack the other areas too. Our security (DEA, military forces, etc.) should use this to become ninja's with our manpower and tech. against these illegal imports and also go on the offense to snuff out the sources that get within our reach.

Cruz yet again, comes up with a viable plan ... but will Trump take notice and listen?  How about an e.o. on this? IF this were to go through it would make Cruz a 'hero' and Trump would never stand for that!!

Asset forfeiture is already in place. I imagine it has to be taken out and dusted off because you just know it was not used against CRIMINALS during the Obamao regime....some cattle farmer in Montana maybe but not against the criminal gangs and RICO racketeers that it was meant to thwart.

Justice dept manages Asset forfeiture funds, but they would need some legislation to fund 'The Wall',(I'm wondering if an Exo could suffice????) but I suspect the funds are already in the AF till somewhere.

I was thinking e.o. as well ... but, I'm thinking Cruz wouldn't have proposed a bill without knowing where the money was sitting leaving me to believe that it is accessible.
