Title: Trump Asks Dianne Feinstein to Add ‘Assault Weapons’ Ban to School Safety Bill
Post by: wally on March 01, 2018, 06:59:54 AM
President Trump asked Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) to add her "assault weapons" ban to the overarching school safety bill during a bipartisan meeting with lawmakers on Wednesday.
Feinstein's bill, which is an enhanced reintroduction of a bill she has put forward again and again, bans over 200 different firearms.

During Wednesday's White House meeting, Trump showed support for the gun control pushed by Sens. Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Pat Toomey (R-PA). The Manchin/Toomey bill is a gun control bill that the Democrat-controlled Senate rejected on April 17, 2013. But Trump chalked that failure up to Barack Obama's lack of leadership, and talked of using the Manchin/Toomey bill as a base to which other bills could be added.

The goal was to create a body of gun legislation, ubiquitously for the purposes of school safety.

Sen. Feinstein talked about her bill and described the AR-15 as one of "the latest and newest weapons" to hit our streets. However, Eugene Stoner designed the AR-15 in the 1950s and Armalite began producing the gun during the 1960s. Are weapons from 60 years ago now considered "latest and newest"?

Nonetheless, Trump listened to Feinstein, heard from a few more gun control proponents—including Rep. Ted Deutch (D-FL)—then looked back at Feinstein and told her she should add her bill to the Manchin/Toomey bill for consideration

=Click bait for the ignorant.
Trump suggested if she wants it in the Bill, take her ban and talk to Manchin and Toomey about adding it to their bill.

so, you're saying that was a publicity stunt and he knows that the GOP in Congress aren't going to cave in?  How does he know for sure?

The President's comments are certainly a topic worthy of discussion on a conservative site just as his proposal to grant amnesty to 1.8 million illegal aliens.

No, I'm saying Breitbart took it out of context and used it as click bait to get a bunch of morons emotionally excited.
It worked "6912 Comments" and 99% 0f them have no clue what was discussed.

What Trump actually did, was to shut her up, as in, I'm not doing shit, if you want it in the Bill, then talk to Twomey.
Kind of like telling your impetuous child, "Go ask your mom".

Ya know, thinking about it a bit more, this might be exactly what Trump wanted, libs thinking he is more of a moderate, knowing quite well the base will still support him. In other words, this was written for libs.
The libs have serious short attention spans, they'll take this and file it away as, "Hmmm, maybe Trump isn't all that bad after all", then  forget why they don't hate him as much, even after the Bill fails, but Trump turned a few more libs to his side, thinking he was at least willing to work with Feinstein.

He's hard to figure out.  That's a strength, as well as a weakness.  One might even characterize it as a blessing as well as a curse. Our enemies and our adversaries can't figure him out and that gives him an edge.  However, I have come to never allow myself to blindly trust any politician in high political office 100%. I've been burned far too often.  He could be simply throwing that old dog a bone.  He could be hoping to improve his own poll numbers among undecided and even some Democrat voters.  He could be once again taking his base for granted as he did with his amnesty offer.  Who knows?

I see you still don't get it. Trump played Schumer like a fiddle, as you say, he made a ridiculous offer, knowing full well the left would reject it, he called their bluff.
Like I said, deeds speak louder than rhetoric, something Trump is a master of. No one can point to a single EO where Trump screwed the base.
