Title: Jerry Brown’s Delta Tunnels in Trouble Over Tripling Water Rates
Post by: walkstall on October 04, 2017, 06:31:09 PM
Jerry Brown's Delta Tunnels in Trouble Over Tripling Water Rates and Fed Probe.

snip~
The Associated Press obtained documents on September 18 that reveal that the legal language governing California's biggest water project in half a century has been tweaked so that the tunnels are now just an "update," rather than a new project. That way every one of the 29 water districts that receive water from the existing California State Water Project will be jointly responsible to pay for the tunnels.

Thank God I have a spring. I've heard they want to put water meters on wells, though that's probably 30 years out, still, it's coming.

Yeah, the Oroville dam project, and look how that turned out. God damn near drown the entire Sacto. valley.
I'd add the fact, that even if they build it, the State has a horrible record of infrastructure repair, as well as cost overrun because of faulty work in the first place.
But all that aside, what about those poor little nonindigenous Smelt? :sneaky:

California wouldn't need any water "projects" if they stopped protecting tiny fish no one has ever seen or heard of.

I know that CA's water system was built and/or bought and/or stolen for the general purposes of water storage and management. That's a handy thing when the nice parts of the state are natural desert. But it's kinda crazy to convert that kind of system to the management of insignificant fish in tidal backwaters. VDH is an invaluable source for comment on just this subject.

I love watching the Left eat its own as much as any of us do. But I pity true Californians who have to sit by and watch the Golden State crumble and fail. It has to happen when all anyone who counts can say is 'no.' 'No' to nuclear, 'no' to coal, 'no' to oil, 'no' to drilling, 'no' to new dams, 'no' to new hydro, 'no' to gas. It's like no one in California has the vaguest idea where energy comes from.

California is in the shits and Brown and the democrats have led the state for decades.

I'm sensing a pattern.

Yep, corruption, nepotism, and downright fraud are always in the recipe of every Dim social project.
This one is no different, the State was sued because it broke its own rules in hiring an unqualified individual to do the basic initial study that came in with a ridiculously low figure for construction.
Add to that, ignored its own laws regarding the endangered species act, and now that many of the early supporters are backing out, the Gov is using the power of government to force them all to pay for it.
It's gotten so bad, they're calling this new project, one that was never even thought of back in the 60s, as a continuation of his dad's water project.

"Under a loophole in Proposition 13, water agencies like Santa Clara Valley Water District have said they could raise taxes on people in their areas without a public vote to pay for the project and any potential cost overruns. That's because the tunnels would be considered an upgrade to the State Water Project, started by former Gov. Pat Brown in 1960, before voters passed Proposition 13 in 1978."

I won't even go into the cost predictions lie, of 16 billion. This state has a record of Dim projects running 10 times, 20 times the amount they put on the books, only to find workarounds later and normal simple projects like bridges take 3 to 5 times longer to complete.
Hell, just a simple freeway fix in my area that was supposed to take 6 months, turned out to take 6 years, after having started over 3 separate times.
This is the worst state in the Union for govt projects, and what makes it worse, is the risk to public involved.

I haven't even covered the actual destruction to the Delta yet, but when it finally comes to court, the left's hypocrisy will be on full display.
For decades they used the Delta Smelt as the poster child for every lynching ever to take place, used it like a club against anyone proposing new dams, or farmers demanding their fair share of water, only to turn around and throw that poor little fish into the giant Cuisinart tunnels, like they so raptors to wind farms, all in the name of "Green".
And for what? A bunch of libs in Hollywood want to water their giant spreads in the desert?
Personally, I don't really give a damn either way, but it's fun watching leftist groups feel the sting of their own policies as the leftist govt tramples them as it moves forward.

CA is now a sanctuary state; no offense or disrespect to those that live there, but with CA's mounting problems, I'd consider moving elsewhere.

This article is a little dated, but it points out that CA water problem isn't a drought, but the cost and misallocation of water.

It's not really all that big of a deal, it has more to do with making headlines and scoring political points with ignorant libs and illegals, oh, and triggering the ire of Trumpanzies.
Truth is, it's unconstitutional, the State doesn't have the law on its side, just like Az lost its case when it tried to enforce laws reserved for the Federal Govt.
For the left, it's all about the here and now narrative, and when Ca loses in court, the media will quietly ignore it.

For now, anyway, but thankfully, I'll be dead before they come after me. How's that for optimism?
