WASHINGTON — The first U.S. senator to face bribery charges in nearly four decades goes on trial Wednesday in a case that could affect the Senate's partisan makeup and the fate of President Donald Trump's legislative agenda.
Robert Menendez, a Democrat in his 12th year as a senator from New Jersey, is charged with using his influence to do favors for a Florida eye doctor accused of overbilling Medicare. In return, prosecutors say, the doctor treated Menendez to "a lavish lifestyle that included private jet rides and vacations in Paris and the Caribbean."

It doesn't look good for him.
The only way it helps the GOP is if he gets jail time. If convicted and isn't sentenced to jail the democrats will never give him the boot.

This entire thing has been a foot-dragger since the beginning years ago, thanks in large part to the willful refusal of most of the press to even mention it. All they have to do is drag it out a few more months, until a (very likely) Democrat NJ governor can take over and then it doesn't really matter if Menendez stays or goes.

Flipping on the Clintons is usually detrimental to ones health. Although they have lost almost all their pull thanks to Hillary. The only problem is if the Clintons go down so so most of the DNC and the media.
I don't see a huge impact. Any republican selected from NJ will be a RINO.

They've gotten idiots like Blago and Jefferson before, but not a big wheel in the party like Menendez. When it will make a difference in bigger things.
