If it were really a simple matter of bracing ourselves for a lower standard of living, even buying into this race to the bottom or level playing field as some kind of sacrificial investment in the coming global Utopia, that would be one thing. But that is not what is happening.  Our prices continue to go up and our incomes continue to go down. Where is this $0.75 loaf of bread we were promised? All I see is bread at $2.50 and up.

The director of Now Seattle, which rallied for the minimum wage, had no comment, only saying "Restaurants open and close all the time, for various reasons."

My understanding some of them will be moving there business into Oregon, as this will spread through Washington.  I see this spreading all up and down the I 5 corridor in time.

Just this yesterday on the news, the Mayor of Sacto.. (Kevin Johnson) stated he would b looking at a Min wage increase like that of SF.
He said he sees many merits and is looking forward to creating a committee to review it.

He's either skirting the issue, or trying an end run around voters. This scum bag was a big Obola supporter.

I hope they do get this increase, they freakin deserve penny of misery it costs them.

Calif. already has a minimum of 9 and it goes to 10 next year.

I have always taken a very simple position on the abortion that is a minimum wage: What if the minimum wage is raised and a business cannot afford it? What then? That is it. nothing else.

Take a look at it from the opposite viewpoint. Whenever there's a union contract in place, or a "prevailing wage" agreement, it's essentially a wage ceiling. Structures like that, though meant to place a floor under wages, act automatically and inevitably to place a ceiling over wages.

Under such conditions, it doesn't matter how hard or smart or efficiently I work. I will make not one penny more than the lazy schlub over there, who signed the same contract, but does as little as he can get by with.

Combine the two, and you have a "wage envelope" that's hard to break into, and almost impossible to escape once you do.

It's actually 8 at the moment, and a jump to 15 will kill off more than half of all business in the Capitol city proper, and if it's County wide, which I'mm sure they'll push for, will drive that much more out of the area.
