I believe all this talk about silencers from the dims falls under "if you say a lie often enough people will believe it" category, there are too many sound bites using the same faulty "facts". Personally, the only legislation I see coming out of this will concern bump stocks.

I agree with your assessment and this creates a dilemma for me.
I do not see the need for any private citizen to have basically a machine gun. That being said, I have concern about any law to restrict guns. As Walks mentioned this would just be the first bite. It is the camel's nose under the tent.

Exactly! Through the years, it's always been some new and deadly thing that just has to be banned. Remember Saturday Night Specials? (There was even a TV show called that, not to mention the Lynyrd Skynyrd song.) Long before that it was "gangster weapons," like the venerable Thompson. There have been crusades against "silencers," "assault" weapons, sniper weapons, "plastic guns," folding stocks, large-capacity magazines (or, in the vernacular of a highly-educated journalist, "clips") "dum-dum" bullets, flash suppressors, body armor-piercing rounds ("cop-killer" bullets), novelty items like the old "zip guns," and many more. Even cutting tools like switchblades and butterfly knives have been demonized.
The Left knows we'll never do a Down Under rollover and say, "Okay, here ya go. I'll take a couple hundo for my tricked out AR and I promise I won't buy any more." So they pick away, a little at a time. In my memory, it's only been in recent years that some of the worst gun laws have been rolled back, especially in DC. Other than a few tiny victories (like FOPA back in 1986), it's all been downhill.
When something crazy happens, the long knives come out. Just today, Bret Stephens, the new token so-called conservative at the NYT, called for the outright repeal of 2A. But that won't happen, and the Left knows it. So they play the long game, and hope the frog doesn't notice how hot the water in the pot is getting.....
