The GA legislature used to meet for forty days a year and may still follow that schedule. MS has 90 and 120 day sessions every other year. We would be better off if the US congress did the same.

I would love to see Pubs start running on a platform of part time Congress and demand they remain in their home State and telecommute.

Let's be honest: do they really work all year round?

They just need to show up one weekend a month/two weeks a year. Pay them as such. Have them sleep on cots in their office. Make them order delivery/take out. No more eating super expensive meals on a daily basis and deciding how to ruin our lives. All offices decorated the sane with the federal Constitution. Each vote will include a pre-question of "Did you re-read the Constitution before you voted?".

I can't believe you lot are not taking this seriously. This shutdown is going to backfire and cost Trump in 2020. On the first day I decided I wanted Chinese so I ordered from the local take-a-way. I got four dumplings instead of five. This sort of catastrophe will cost Trump the Chinese and American-dumpling vote in 2020. Now, I'm a forgiving sort of chap so I'll give Trump some leeway but if I don't get the correct number of wantons with my curried chips on Thursday I'm voting for the socialist.

And TX seems to be doing just fine without a lot of "help" from politicians.

But your wantons and curried chips will be replaced with a serving of dried fish and rice cakes under socialism.

Virginia meets for 60 days in even numbered years, and 30 days in odd years. About the same
as Texas's 90 day session.  VA's also meets again on the 6th Wednesday following any sesson
to consider the Governor's vetos.

I just read this article about how the shutdown is affecting families over Christmas. I additionally saw a piece on the news today about how people are cutting back and returning Christmas presents for money. Granted it's no good when anyone is out of work but has six days really done such a huge dent in these workers lives that they have to return their Christmas presents? Seems like bad planning on their parts and an even worse stretch by the MSM trying to feed the narrative that within five days people are going broke.

Whoever is returning a $1000 worth of gifts just to survive this week long government shutdown never had a chance in the first place.
