What a simple idea...  why couldn't the states do this?

I agree totally...and I also think the republicans should quadruple the taxs on any corporations that gives jobs to china or mexico and any other country an aids the unemployment of americans which adds greatly to our national debt, to make that greed not worth it.
Two way street here no one is without blame

Anyone that doesnt admit that Corporations out of the pursuit for higher profits and Ceos in the pursuit to enhance the numbers for higher bonus's have done harm to the american economy or  your being dishonest.
Everyone screams how its the corps that create jobs, they dont create american jobs in goddamn china...They alone <american corps> have made china not only our biggest looming threat but damn near our owners.
Any of you that wont admit that corporations creating jobs in other countries created unemployment here and added to the financial problems of states is dishonest because the unemployed cost states and the feds money.
Alot of people scream about personal responsiblity and I agree EXCEPT when the corps take most of the decent jobs out of the country whats left for americans to be responsible to themselve with, walmart jobs ?  Dont give me that small business shit either because not everyon can start a small business not all of america can be in business and not everyone has the skills to be in business...the whole country cant be small business unless you bring all of south america here to work...
So anyone that tries to just blame the unions for our woes is full of shit imho
They are certainly a part of it...but theres other parts adding to our woes just as much
Im not cheerleading for the election thuggery of the unions or anything else they do I believe they are wrong...but Im not  hailing corporations that need a kick in their ass just as much as the unions. They want lower taxs lower regulation to what take the jobs out of the country so they can have more money...they are every bit as bad if not worse

Zip, why do you think so many corporations closed up shop here in the USA and went overseas or to Canada or Mexico?  Blame the LABOR UNIONS and their outrageous and unreasonable demands!

Why do you think that General Motors and Chrysler and Ford and many other car companies over the past several decades have had serious financial troubles or have gone out of business completely?  Blame the LABOR UNIONS and their outrageous and unreasonable demands!

As an example, Studebaker, who made a huge splash with their revolutionary "Avanti" in 1962-63, decided to close up shop rather than allow the United Auto Workers union to infiltrate their workforce in South Bend, Indiana.

Yes, Zip, there are many greedy corporations out there.  We've all read the horror stories (Enron, HealthSouth, Tyco, Phar-Mor, WorldCom, etc.), but don't underestimate the destruction and corruption perpetrated by organized labor unions in the United States.

When $200 million is spent by labor unions on this year's mid-term elections to campaign and support Democrat candidates, there is a BIG problem with the labor union management thugs and their understanding of what union dues are SUPPOSED to be used for.

I work for a Government agency and have seen the Union at work up close and personal.   A couple of years ago during budget hearings one union president actually stood in front of the board of Supervisors and said "his" members would rather have layoffs than take 1 furlough day an month and forgo the 2% COLA increase.  When pressed about the "members" agreeing to this they backtracked and said they had asked a few shop stewards...  You know the people with seniority who would not be out the door.   Personal gain is all they care about.

Now the Unions do know how to take care of there "shop stewards".  The dinner meeting and then the ball game.  Then the trips out of state for meeting and ball games with eveything paid for.  In some Union the shop stewards get full pay when there is a layoff so you know who the shop steward are pulling for.

A longtime Dem friend of mine is a diehard union type who once served as local president at his shop. Then came the union's national election.

They flew him to Vegas and comp'd his room, meals, drinks, and almost everything except the tips. "They didn't tell me outright who to vote for," he said, "but they sure made it plain this was a one-time trip if I didn't vote their way."

He added, the heaviest lobbying they did was front-row center, right in front of the stripper's pole.

I am of the mind that "government" unions should either not exist or they should not be allowed to give monetary support to a political party.  I am currently "unrepresented",  So at least I know I am not paying for a political candidate I would never support.   >:(

Sorry AF I dont believe that, might have been a few but the majority went to make more cash.

Why do you think that General Motors and Chrysler and Ford and many other car companies over the past several decades have had serious financial troubles or have gone out of business completely?  Blame the LABOR UNIONS and their outrageous and unreasonable demands!

Theyre still here and flying the  corporate jet mentality to beg for taxpayer cash is also a part of it and high flying swinging parties on islands doesnt help either..car companies are a two way street..

As an example, Studebaker, who made a huge splash with their revolutionary "Avanti" in 1962-63, decided to close up shop rather than allow the United Auto Workers union to infiltrate their workforce in South Bend, Indiana.

The avanti wasnt selling...I dont know enough about why Studebaker closed up ..I know I owned a golden hawk and loved it

The bottom line AF corporations are just as much or more to blame for our economic malais as unions....the financial industry especially you talk about the auto bailouts...the fat cats in the financial industry got far more....

Understand Zip - I have a personal dislike for government unions.  During a time that Management and Unrepresented employees agreed to skip our COLA and take a furlough day per month to help save jobs - they refused to do either and allowed employees (both union and non-union) to be layed-off.   While we attempted to do something to help save other employees from the unemployment line they did nothing.

I have also set across the table during Meet and Confers with the Unions and have found most these people to be arrogant, foul mouthed and pretty much assholes.

Here's a finding that will have any red-blooded American spluttering into his cornflakes. According to the Conference Board, a highly respected economic research association, China will overtake the US as the world's biggest economy by 2012, or within two years.

Unions didnt do all that and the only industries that havent run to china is the auto industry with the much hated and maligned Autoworkers union...so the worst of the worst union had nothing to do with the greedy exodus to china....
