Ted Cruz has admitted that his campaign spread a false story that Ben Carson was leaving the campaign trail just prior to the Iowa Caucus. This is the second dirty tactic of the Cruz campaign, the first being the shameless pamphlets disguised as official Iowa Department of Elections material which the campaign sent out last week.

Ted Cruz campaign officials sent out emails to their supporters urging them to tell Ben Carson supporters that Ben Carson had dropped out and supporters should back Ted Cruz. If this stunt caused Cruz to pick up 4 voters per precinct, that is the victory of him over Donald Trump there.

Seriously, Marco Rubio is looking better all the time.

Your title is a lie. Cruz camp heard it from CNN first and simply passed along.

Solar, thank you for addressing this.  I was getting a little wobbly on Cruz until you did so.

Except the Carson campaign says they informed the Cruz campaign those rumors were false, and the Cruz campaign refused to stop spreading the misinformation. Anything for an extra vote, right?

Carson spokeswoman Deana Bass told DailyMail.com that 'the fact that the Cruz campaign received Dr. Carson's statement and chose not correct their false statements says it all.'

If you bother to read the article, the Carson campaign is saying Cruz' campaign refused to stop spreading the story after Carson's campaign told them it wasn't true. That's not me saying that, it is the Carson campaign.

Cruz got it from CNN and actually apologized. Cruz's only mistake is believing CNN.

I'm surprised ABC didn't report Cruz was dropping out and Hillary was elected emperor of the universe.

I don't doubt for a second that this story is essentially true, as reported. I do fail to see what the big deal is. This kind of thing is fairly routine. Why should Cruz's staff be held to a higher standard than anyone else? Mitt Romney did this and worse almost every day of his primary campaign (yet, oddly, was unwilling to engage in the same tactics when the general election came around   :glare:). Romney was criticized for very little of it. "That's just politics," they would say.

I mean, we've all seen the debates, right? How is telling bald-faced lies in front of 15 million people any less condemnable than this?
