My understanding it's not backed by the government.   


We were doing Rushmore so I stopped by about 20 years ago I think it was.  They were asking for donations, I gave them 20$.  My wife call me cheap so I made it 100$.  She said Crazy would be proud of me.    Crazy was Cheyenne I am 1/2 Western Cherokee.
