Atty. Gen. Jeff Sessions has resigned, ending a tortured relationship with President Trump and opening what could be historic fight over the sprawling criminal investigation that has clouded his White House tenure.

In a letter delivered to the White House, Sessions wrote that he was submitting his resignation at the request of President Trump, who has been highly critical of his attorney general since he recused himself last year from overseeing investigation into Russia's interference in the 2016 election.

Sessions wrote that he had been honored to serve as attorney general and sought to uphold the rule of law. "I came to work at the Department of Justice everyday determined to do my duty and serve my country," he wrote. "I have done so to the best of my ability."

Trump long had wanted Sessions gone but he resisted forcing him out until after the midterm election. Session's resignation almost certainly gets ahead of his being fired by the president.

The way I look at it, Trump is getting rid of another southerner or heartlander. We need more of those not less. I will be looking to see who the replacement is.

lol, this great.  Trump is focused and movin' on out with the MOAB.  I have a funny feeling that he's going to play the "get them before they get started on getting me" play.

Unfortunately there will be no Silent Assassin Stealth Sessions.  Wrong guy, wrong time. I still wonder what his going price was, or what pecadillo of his is immortalized on video, in one the dems' safes.

It was part of today's dem whining, but still a great point - "there will be no meaningful congressional oversight of anything until January".  Meaning that Trump has 60 days of absolutely unfettered go-nuts time to prosecute.  I was hoping this would play out.  After that, there will be all    kinds of dem house interference.  Make hay while the sun is out.

After watching Trump I have come to the conclusion he does not give a particular damn where anyone comes from as long as that person 'does the duty'.

Sure, those from the Heartland are more likely to be conservative and deep-thinkers, but even southerners have some few who just do not perform up to expectations. When an appointee of Trump's fails to meet his expectations.. he/she gets FIRED.

We need to go back to the genesis of the Trump/Sessions relationship. Sessions was the first GOP senator to come out for Trump He helped Trump during the campaign. Trump felt a loyalty and Sessions requested the AG gig. The entire began when Sessions did not level with Trump about recusing himself and blind sided Trump. Being the deal maker Trump is this deception soured Trump. However, Trump had to consider the mid terms and wisely waited until they were over before he fired Sessions. In my view, it was the proper decision.
