Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner (R-WI) has reintroduced his House bill to eliminate the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). The bureau would have a year to be 100% absorbed into the FBI and the DEA.

The press release says:

QuoteDespite our country being trillions of dollars in debt, government spending continues to rise. Common sense budgeting solutions are necessary, and the ATF Elimination Act is one measure we can take to reduce spending, redundancy, and practice responsible governance. The ATF is a scandal-ridden, largely duplicative agency that has been branded by failure and lacks a clear mission. It is plagued by backlogs, funding gaps, hiring challenges, and a lack of leadership. These facts make it a logical place to begin draining the swamp and acting in the best interest of the American taxpayer.

Why????

The FBI and DEA have the people in place now that can do there're jobs.   IF 100% is absorbed your not making things smaller you have just changed the name and keep moving on.

I gather ATF cannot hire anyone during that year but nothing was in there about doing the same cap for where the deadwood went to. I'd disarm the incompetents and spread them across the other alphabet shops.
