I thought I would start a new thread on this since we now have a bill to debate.

It is far from perfect and stops short of full repeal. It does however have the Cruz provision which allows insurance companies to offer plans without the mandated coverages of Obamacare. That will give people choices and that basically kills Obamacare. Cruz has said he could support it so that makes it more acceptable to me. Rand Paul is till not on board, but Mark Meadows has said he and the Freedom Caucus could support a bill with the Cruz provision.

As I said it is not perfect, but it decimates Obamacare and removes another of Obama's disasters. That in and of itself is a victory. I say pass it and move on to tax reform. Also, it will drive the libs more bat s--t crazy than they already are.

the Cruz provision smells too much like freedom to pass. Watch mccain try to kill it with dim support.

Looks  like Rand Paul is going to kill it as well.

Can someone tell me, who is going to buy Commiecare, when you can get a bare bones policy, aside from the fact, the mandate forcing people to buy HC in the first place?
I really can't see any Pub, even McStain willing to go so far as to try and kill Cruz' provisions.

The new plan, significantly, includes a provision based on a proposal by Sen. Ted Cruz allowing insurers to offer lower-cost, bare-bones policies.

Cruz of Texas, a conservative who did not support the previous version of the bill, said Thursday that McConnell incorporated some of his demands, including his Consumer Freedom Amendment and proposal to allow health savings accounts to pay for health care premiums.

"My central focus has always been on lowering premiums," Cruz told Fox News' Peter Doocy on Thursday. "I think that's the key to bringing Republicans together, to uniting Republicans and getting this done."

The Cruz amendment, however, is included in brackets in the legislation, a sign it could ultimately be changed. "The brackets mean that the policy continues to be worked upon as members react to it," a senior policy Senate staffer said.

The policy aide said the CBO will evaluate two versions of the legislation – one that includes the Cruz text and one that doesn't.

Cruz's proposal would let insurers sell plans with minimal coverage, as long as they also sell policies that meet strict coverage requirements set by Obama's 2010 statute.

This is my point. Just by giving folks a choice kills Obamacare. Just because a full Obamacare policy is available will prove very few will buy it.

If I recall, the majority of the GOP has campaigned at one time or another on full REPEAL.  While Cruz's bill seems to open up the marketplace it still keeps portions of Bammycare in tact.  I am very disappointed and disgusted. We hold the majority in both houses with the same RINO's and RINO leadership and as I expected, nothing has changed. The wall and REPEAL of Bammycare are dead in the water.

If Cruz Legislation is signed into law and Commiecare is left alone, Commiecare will die in less than a month because no one in their right mind would pay 4 times the price for HC they don't even need, when they can buy exactly what they want through the free mkt styled Cruz Legislation.
I prefer they leave Commiecare alone, let the Marxist HC die under its own bureaucratic weight.
If the GOP repeal even a fraction of it, the left will have an excuse for its failure, rather than reality.

Just repeal it.   There are enough government safety nets to take care of the rest.   Forcing everyone into this healthcare "box" won't work.

ALL of Washington needs to live under the same duress the rest of us do, no more healthcare exclusions for special people - if they the politicians thing this is so good, they need to be punished by it first.

Repeal it and get over it.

Again, why, why give the left an excuse for the failure of their socialist health care system, when all that's needed is to remove its mandate.
If the GOP repeals it, the narrative will be that the right refused to allow Commiecare to flourish, leaving millions without HC.
Of course, that's pure bull shit, but that's exactly what they will do, use it to beat Conservatives over the head.

When in fact, simply taking away the mandate that a man or an elderly woman has to purchase abortion coverage, a very unnecessary coverage, about as useful as meteorite insurance in the event it destroys the earth so the govt mandates you buy coverage insurance even though it's obvious no one will be alive to collect.
So a small private insurance sells you a custom policy without meteorite and abortion insurance at a 70% savings over that of the govt plan, which one is the public going to buy?

When the public is given the option to shop elsewhere for HC, they will see the folly and failure of govt run HC plan, and the entire system will collapse.
Compare it to the car mkt, where the govt mandates everyone must buy a tiny smart car hybrid first, regardless of your needs, everyone must own one just in case you need to make short city runs to the store.
But you live in the country on a really rough private road that requires a 4x4. Too bad, the govt mandated you buy one regardless of need, a car you will never use.

No, there is no need for repeal, just take away the mandate, the free mkt will fix itself.

In the same light if any part of Bammcare is left and the GOP is successful in tweaking it, the left will still hail Bammy and credit him as the originator of saving healthcare.  REPEAL the darn thing completely.  Implement a new plan and then the GOP will get credit.  Right now the actions of the House and Senate are making it seem that the ACA is wonderful and only needs some minor 'tweaking' here and there. Everyone knows that any part of the new and improved ACA that even is remotely disliked will be seen as a failure of the GOP and the left will insist that had the GOP left the bill alone, everything would have been fine.  Leaving any part of the ACA in tact is just asking for trouble.

None of that matters without a mandate, it would suffer the fate of a free mkt enterprise, just like any other business on the mkt.
Not repealing it also means they can't touch any part of it, all they have to do is remove the law that states we have to purchase it and it dies on the vine.

I haven't read the bill yet. Is it true it keeps the subsidies for insurance companies?
