SCOTUS Pick. Who Will It Be?
« on: July 02, 2018, 05:22:51 PM »
I only chose these three because it appears they are the top tier Trump has to work with.
Yeah, he may pull a Trump card, and I've no doubt we can trust him, but from the three, who is your pick?

I have to go with Brett Kavanaugh.

Amy Coney Barrett, abortion may hold he back. The Lib's will hit her over the head with it 24/7

Mike Lee is needed in congress right now.

Brett Kavanaugh. Amy Coney Barrett's position on stare decisis will probably chase away Collins and Murkowsk because of the possibility of Roe V Wade being argued before the SCOTUS again.

I should have asked Who do you want? Not who do you think he'll pick..

Trump stated he wants a Justice that can be on the court for 40 to 45 years, that's why I think it just might be Lee.

My gut says Barrett. However, Collins could be a problem.

She could be a provocative choice, being a woman and all. But I think she'll be passed over for her age, no other reason.
Trump has some really good choices this time and I believe he really wants a solid Conservative like Bork and could give a shit what the Dims think.

I have a question...It seems to be Roe v. Wade is the sticking point. Now my question is, isn't Roe v. Wade settled law or can they go back and reverse it...?

With a Conservative SCOTUS majority, when the right case comes along, it would be reversed because it has always been bad law.
It literally strips Men of their say over the fate of their own child.
The left knows this and it scares the shit out of them, but there's nothing stopping us from lying to them and telling them it's settled law, they lie for a living, let them see what it feels like for a change.

It is my understanding that it would not be a simple suit to overturn Roe vs Wade. However, another suit to come at the affects of Roe vs Wade would be the vehicle to undermine Roe vs Wade.

A reflection.
Several honorably support Senator Mike Lee/Utah.
Yet consider some other Senators:
* Sen. Collins /Maine; a hard core lefty and relentless
foe of Trump who will seek any excuse to defeat or
embarrass him. Maine, an irrelevant appendage,
will be down to 3EC Votes in due course; so let's
save time and tow it into Hudson's Bay now.
* Sen. Burr / NC; another Never-Trumper aptly related
to his corrupt and disloyal ancestor Aaron.
There's plenty more but the matter is obvious.
The Senate is a hotbed of Trump opponents!

Opponents yes, but not the winning side to be on. As evidenced in how the Establishment has been corralled at every turn and forced into concession to Trump's agenda.

I should have asked Who do you want? Not who do you think he'll pick..

Trump stated he wants a Justice that can be on the court for 40 to 45 years, that's why I think it just might be Lee.

My choice ... Amul Thapar

He and his wife are raising three kids in parochial schools, and the only thing he likes talking about more than the Constitution are the sports and academic exploits of his children.

He is a serious family man — values instilled in him by his parents. His dad was a heating and air conditioning guy in Toledo, and Thapar spent a summer driving a truck for his company.

His mom sold her successful restaurant after 9/11 to become a social worker with the U.S. Army to help Special Forces and other heroes transition home from the battlefield.

Amul Thapar: Trump Country's Perfect SCOTUS Choice

(**snip**)

Quote
Liberals are already freaking out about Thapar. They are so worried about him, in fact, that liberal donors are funding an ad campaign against him before he’s even been chosen. If the president is looking to torment the people most unhappy with his presidency, Thapar is a great choice.

Thapar is known as a great legal writer and a good judge of law clerks, a vital trait for Supreme Court justices. Scalia, Thomas, John Roberts, Anthony Kennedy, and many other top judges have picked his clerks to serve in their chambers.

For an unexpected president, Thapar is the perfect unexpected choice. He’s not from the swamp — he represents Middle America, just like the president. Just as Trump has injected a dose of Flyover Country realism into Washington, so too would Thapar to an institution often associated with coastal elites.

The son of immigrants raised in Toledo, who sits on a federal appeals court that covers the heart of Trump Country (Kentucky, Ohio, Tennessee and Michigan). A rock-solid conservative and defender of the U.S. Constitution. A conservative jurist who reveres Clarence Thomas. A justice who will be on the Supreme Court for at least 30 years.

The president is looking at a very good list of highly qualified people. He can’t do any better than Amul Thapar, a history-making choice.

Solar,
As you well know, the Greeks and Romans accepted dissent
in politics but refused to tolerate insubordination which they
dealt with, to their credit, harshly and quickly.
We moderns, enamored of piety and sanctimony in politics,
think any/ every idea/opinion has merit; the fantasy that
reverberates 24/7/365 in the US Senate.
