Schumer Wants Delay On Tax Bill

https://hotair.com/archives/2017/12/13/schumer-gop-delay-tax-bill-dems-get-votes-please/

I almost put this in the "Jokes" thread. Since Jones won the AL seat Chuckie wants to delay the vote on the tax bill until he is seated. Sure Chuck, anything else you would like?

However, knowing McConnell he just might honor Chuckie's request.

No problem, he has enough RINOs to shoot this one down.   Shumer is probably making phone calls to Murkowski, Collins & McCain as you read this.

So it's clear that the Dims want to delay the Tax Cut vote until after Jones takes his position. And the Pubs mostly want passage right away. Hence an even stronger Christmas push by the Pubs.

Congressional Calendar shows that the House leaves (left) on 12/14 and the Senate leaves today. But there is still noise about congress working the tax bill. They must be able to stay on if they choose to? So could there even be a Christmas vote if Congress decided to work through the holiday (fat chance, right)? Humor me ... could it even theoretically happen?

Can the Pubs stay and vote even if the Dims go on scheduled break? And it all stops in a shutdown, right?

The thing is that the the govt. shuts down the morning of Dec. 23. So the Dims have a motivation to shut the govt. down and they'll do anything to undermine Trump even if they cut off their own nose. If they don't vote for the funding then nothing would move after Dec. 23 and they can keep Tax Cuts from happening until Jones gets in.

The House shouldn't be a problem. But the Senate might be? How many votes are required to pass a temporary spending bill? Will party lines cover it?

Ryan and McConnell determine the calendar for their chambers. The dems can do whatever they want to do, but that would only make it easier for the GOP if they bail.

A government shut down would have no affect on the tax vote. It would not affect the congressional calendar. IMHO, the democrats are playing with fire on a shut down. This time it will clearly their actions that cause the government to shut down.

Very interesting ... thanks for the clarification as this has always confused me. I interpret your reply, "A government shut down would have no affect on the tax vote." to mean that the leaders of the House and Senate can call for a vote on a bill while they are in session regardless of whether the government is shut down or not. And the leaders also determine whether or not the House / Senate are in session. Is that correct?

I'd love for them to keep the Dems late... all the Dems want to do is get to the hotel to their prostitutes and drug dealers...  if they stay too long they may start to withdraw...

Hey man, this is getting EXPENSIVE for the Democrats - just ask Lisa Bloom.   Hotels, hookers, dealers - that's called "overhead".

We call them, "Unbelievable".  If only everyone else had the same opinion.

Chuck Shumer sure gets a lot of mileage and press coverage out of playing on people's ignorance to a willing media.
What would Shumer say if the day after Donald Trump was elected, Trump demanded to be seated immediately?

"Government shutdown" is a false narrative invented by politicians and the MSM. In a shutdown only non-essential functions are shutdown. Politicians use it as a threat and PR tool to fool the public. Remember how Obama threatened to cut off SS payments?

Exactly!
Once again the left was victorious in seizing the narrative.
Truth is, a govt shutdown is an excellent thing, not only does it save treasury, no life impeeding laws are written.

It's counter intuitive to think of Congress is an essential function given how they typically behave.

The congress in Texas meets every other year for 90 days. Hard to do much damage in that short of a time span.
