This bill would require any person who operates a social media, as defined, Internet Web site with a physical presence in California to develop a strategic plan to verify news stories shared on its Web site. The bill would require the plan to include, among other things, a plan to mitigate the spread of false information through news stories, the utilization of fact-checkers to verify news stories, providing outreach to social media users, and placing a warning on a news story containing false information.
(a) Any person who operates a social media Internet Web site with physical presence in California shall develop a strategic plan to verify news stories shared on its Internet Web site.
(b) The strategic plan shall include, but is not limited to, all of the following:
(1) A plan to mitigate the spread of false information through news stories.

They can't force censorship on the net, and they know it. I don't think even the 9th circus would uphold such a blatant attack on free speech. This is nothing more than a bunch of far left blowhards playing up to their far leftists idiot supporters.

I hear ya but I'm not sure the 1st amendment is on our side any more. Just look at college campuses when a controversial (conservative) speaker is scheduled. How about the boycotting game from advertisers if some little snowflake gets there feelings hurt? We (conservatives) are losing the 1st amendment slowly but surely unless something changes.

Wouldn't required linking to a site to back up what one says take some of the onus off say a board like to this to have to verify what it's members are posting? Our individual opinions (from us nobody forum posters) to specific political pundit pieces (which a few member here perform up to Hannity, Shapiro, Wilkow, or Gutfield) to actual news broadcasts are protected by the First Amendment.
