Twinkies Maker Hostess Going Out of Business
"We deeply regret the necessity of today's decision, but we do not have the financial resources to weather an extended nationwide strike," CEO says

"We deeply regret the necessity of today's decision, but we do not have the financial resources to weather an extended nationwide strike," Hostess CEO Gregory F. Rayburn said in announcing that the firm had filed a motion with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court to shutter its business. "Hostess Brands will move promptly to lay off most of its 18,500-member workforce and focus on selling its assets to the highest bidders."

Hostess Brands Inc. had warned employees that it would file to unwind its business and sell off assets if plant operations didn't return to normal levels by 5 p.m. Thursday. In announcing its decision, Hostess said its wind down would mean the closure of 33 bakeries, 565 distribution centers, approximately 5,500 delivery routes and 570 bakery outlet stores in the United States.

The unions really showed them who's boss. Way to go.

Yawn

Seriously though, this is how ONE product from ONE company can lead to a loss of THOUSANDS of supporting jobs.  Liberals will not see the connection between Obama's policies and mass unemployment that's coming

A friend of mine posted about this a Facebook and one of her lib friends replied "It's a great day for the health of Americas youth.". The snarky part of me wanted to reply, "yes, a food corporation should go out of business to prevent you from having to say no to your kids."

One word......................GREECE.

It's only a matter of time until these union members take to the streets. It's either that, or get rid of the unions.

There are millions of Americans that would be happy to have a job that paid $13-$15 an hour............with or without benefits. Unfortunately, with Obamacare in the mix, even this will be impossible. Closing down will be the only option left for many companies. This is just the tip of the iceberg. It looks a lot like the iceberg that sunk the unsinkable Titanic. :scared:

America is a lot like the Titanic, except on November 6, America voted to back up and hit the iceberg again for good measure.

About 35 years ago I was working for a private investigative company, I got a call from the Sacramento branch of Hostess, they had a serious theft issue.
After reviewing to situation, the only avenue was to go under cover, the guy in charge said I needed another option, there was no way to get me inside, I questioned why, he said the Union needed to approve any new hires.
I said have me come in as mechanical upgrade specialist, he said they have that covered as well, janitor I said? Covered.
Point is, they could not create a way to even get me in the facility without involving the union.

It's sad when the parasite has the last word on what it's host does.

Refuse a 8% pay cut, so now they take a 100% pay cut.  These idiots will never find jobs today that will pay that well again.

They won't find jobs, period. I wonder if union dues is automatically deducted from unemployment checks? It should be.

They're just an evil corporation that needed to be brought down as example to other greedy corporate entities.

Hows that Just the facts mamm, that about cover it?

Wow.

I think I see the game plan.  Unions squeeze the company, the start to fold, and Hussein comes in with a bailout to save the day.  They may let Hostess go down, but this seems like it's going to be the new squeeze play.
