Ross Perot, self-made billionaire, patriot and philanthropist, dies at 89



Ross Perot, self-made billionaire, renowned patriot and two-time independent candidate for U.S. president, has died after a five-month battle with leukemia.

He was 89.

The pioneer of the computer services industry, who founded Electronic Data Systems Corp. in 1962 and Perot Systems Corp. 26 years later, was just 5-foot-6, but his presence filled a room.

"Describe my father?" Ross Perot Jr., his only son and CEO of the Perot Group, asked rhetorically in an interview. "Obviously a great family man, wonderful father. But at the end of the day, he was a wonderful humanitarian.

"Every day he came to work trying to figure out how he could help somebody."

Although I did not dislike the man, I cannot forgive him for the chain of events he set off by causing the election of Bill Clinton. I know that some people say he was not the cause but I do not believe it. His last minute re-entry left him no chance of winning but 100% of the chance of being a spoiler. The argument of the Electoral College would have been for Clinton would have meant the delegates of many states were going to vote against the popular votes in their state.

Though you are correct, I see the GOP Establishment as the true spoiler in their ruthless lies and abuse of Perot with the help of the leftist media.

I believe both you and carolina are correct. Perot certainly hurt Bush I, but he killed himself showing his true RINO credentials.

Hindsight being 20/20. I'm glad history turned out the way it did, it allowed the left to move up their agenda socialism, they got a false sense that they could push their agenda decades before this nation was ready.
All they had to do was be patient, the GOP was never a Conservative party, so it's safe to say we were already on the path of socialism. Point being, all they had to do was wait for our generation to die off, they already had the schools pushing a socialist agenda., so they had two generations brainwashed.
In truth, the leftists set the stage for a Trump Presidency to take back the country.

I voted for Ross Perot TWICE, I think one of them he got 19%, I blame Bush the First "Read my Lips no new taxes" and totally lack luster Bob Dole coupled with the stupidity of the American Voter for Clinton, not Ross.

Ross was not only a great business mind and a true Patriot, he loved America Veterans and he would not leave his people behind when they were stuck in Iran during the revolution, you'd have never seen a Benghazi during his 8 years.

Heh, me too, at the time I thought his idea of electronic direct democracy/national referendum was a good idea....ot so much as I've grown older and relatively wiser (I hope anyways)

Was Perot the father of Trump?  This OP asks that and in one way it is true concerning trade. But Americans want cheap and unions have been demonized for many many years now.  I started my work career after military service in a union and while it had some odd rules, it laid out a groundwork for employees and especially employers.  I made nothing when I started but gradually made enough to live the American dream. While I moved out of the union, it was a stepping stone and even today provides a living wage for its members.
