Does anyone have any thoughts as to why Kazakhstan is forging such strong ties with China? Attempt at political/economic diversification? Sign to the West and Russia that this country has far more options, ambitions, and political clout than has often been interpreted?

Kazakhstan and China sign cooperation agreement

The Chairman of the Majilis or lower house of the parliament of Kazakhstan, Nurlan Nigmatulin, and the Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of China, Zhang Dejiang, signed a Memorandum of Cooperation at a ceremony in Beijing on October 15.  The signing took place during a meeting of parliamentarians from Kazakhstan with their Chinese colleagues.

The Memorandum establishes a legal basis to the agreements signed last month by President Nazarbayev and the Chinese President, Xi Jinping.  The Memorandum creates a joint parliamentary commission, and there are already plans for the first meeting of this commission in Astana next year.

During the visit, Mr Nigmatulin also met Chinese Premier Xi Jinping, to discuss relations between the two countries.  Mr Xi Jinping emphasized that cooperation between parliamentarians is an important component of the comprehensive strategic partnership.  Both Kazakhstan and China recognize the high level of cooperation between the two countries and stressed that the agreements reached are solid examples of the constructive relations between the two countries.

I think DTS is asking why Kazakhstan would pursue stronger ties with China.

Then to answer his question...
Better poker player than Obozo, they are taking advantage of his weakness.
We look extremely weak in the world with a rookie in the WH, he is clueless as to how geopolitics works and has put us in a very disadvantaged position of chasing, rather than being pursued by weak country's.

I don't know the agenda behind this poster, but this is the second time he's raised obscure points, ones that in truth are irrelevant, but when put together like a puzzle, expose the incompetence of our Marxist in the WH.

We sure do look weak.

But then again, a Dem instigated wrecked U.S. economy and decades of Demrino (un)Fair Trade agreements have taken their toll on America and the U.S. dollar.

Like it or not, this (and the fact that Kazakhstan is the largest landlocked country in the world) could be the reason that it's looking towards China, rather than the United States, in regard to its future.

The next question might be "are the Chinese going to be as tolerant of Kazakhstan Islamic terrorism as is the U.S. under Obama"?

It's a game of geopolitical chess and China just made a move in an attempt to upset the game.
Under this administration, it as a smart move, Obozo has very few moves.
Hell, the moron pissed off the Saudi' to the point of upsetting the M/E even further.
