Roger Ailes dead
« on: May 18, 2017, 06:53:26 AM »
Father of the Establishment kicked the bucket.

Republican media strategist Roger Ailes launched Fox News Channel in 1996, ostensibly as a "fair and balanced" counterpoint to what he regarded as the liberal establishment media. But according to a remarkable document buried deep within the Richard Nixon Presidential Library, the intellectual forerunner for Fox News was a nakedly partisan 1970 plot by Ailes and other Nixon aides to circumvent the "prejudices of network news" and deliver "pro-administration" stories to heartland television viewers.

The memo—called, simply enough, "A Plan For Putting the GOP on TV News"— is included in a 318-page cache of documents detailing Ailes' work for both the Nixon and George H.W. Bush administrations that we obtained from the Nixon and Bush presidential libraries. Through his firms REA Productions and Ailes Communications, Inc., Ailes served as paid consultant to both presidents in the 1970s and 1990s, offering detailed and shrewd advice ranging from what ties to wear to how to keep the pressure up on Saddam Hussein in the run-up to the first Gulf War.

Many people were affected by the work he helped establish.  His kind will be missed... he had long coat-tails.

I can't really say he pioneered anything, maybe more "leg & cleavage exposure on news" - but, nevertheless, he showed the Big 3 networks that others can compete for market share and there is a niche market for Conservatives.  In that thought, I think many people from across the political spectrum were emboldened to take a chance at writing and broadcasting.

Which really is something Roger Ailes was remarkable for - he blew the lid off the elitist media, the untouchable liberals, who *expected* our worship, by sticking a multitude of no-name & younger folks behind the microphones & cameras.  Were it not for Roger Ailes, we probably would be stuck with just 3 far left networks and a handful of miserable cable network shows.   I can't say Ailes *balanced* the news with Conservatism - even though a few got a start with Ailes, who probably wouldn't have otherwise.

We have many "fresh faces", thanks to Roger Ailes.  RIP

Ailes was instrumental in giving the Establishment a megaphone in the media, later the creative genius behind FOX, the main outlet for the Establishment.
I have nothing good to say about the guy, he's partially behind the capitulation of the GOP to the left.
He also gave Rush his break on National radio, another proven traitor to the Conservative cause. Hannity ring a bell, Oreily?

I hear ya... and knew that.   Consider Ailes as the guy who started making cracks in the MSM wall.
The big 3 tried to ignore and marginalize FOX, without Ailes work, we might still be stuck with all Communists instead of what we have today, Commies & RINOs....  Not a perfect work, but still better than nothing.

Sort of like the Weather Channel... started off rather unique, and went far left political with Global Warming.
One of the many reasons why I don't own a TV since 1988.

I know what you're saying, but sadly, he usurped a mkt that should have been Conservative all along, kept it locked up with RNC money, enough to hold off any competitors.
I used to get so angry at the fact Conservatives seemed to be afraid to enter media, then as time went by, I realized it was more than just the left they needed to overcome, it was the RNC Establishment.

How many times did you ask yourself, why hasn't Rush helped fund a Conservative network? I no longer ask why for obvious reasons.

Agreed. I did endure Limbaugh's ridiculous TV debut in that high backed chair, smoking cigars like some crazed L.A.-based late-night evangelist just to irritate leftists, and I didn't watch since.

I only endured a single overly-cutesy radio program, rejecting his infotainment parsings as tossing out red meat to enrage liberal eavesdroppers. I didn't put any effort into considering his alleged opinions. Limbaugh was only the front man --- Ailes owned the store.

I agree that his offering ANY difference was enough to pry us out of a relentless monochromatic socialist media nightmare. His was not a perfect work, and it WAS still better than nothing, even if only to remind the left that their opinions aren't the only ones.

Good point.

Boss, I respectfully submit it is better to speak well of the dead in hope the living will return that courtesy for oneself. Call it a Midwestern thang.

I didn't watch or participate or put one red centime into either of their pockets. But I would cheer and support their right to do so, and to succeed in a capitalist system where every word said may be held against you --- and you get a fat payday anyway.

Said, Yowza!

Not me, nothing changes when they die, they aren't suddenly forgiven for their past dances with the Devil.
If they want to be spoken fondly of after passing, then they better get their shit together before that time comes. Ailes came up decades short where reclaiming any dignity after the fact, so screw the fuckin RINO, he screwed us and helped move the GOP left.

Am I the only one that ever bothered to study this guys past?

FOX News is not as conservative as I would like.
It is possible that Ailes created a fake conservative news source
to suck all the oxygen (advertising dollars and viewers)
away from real conservative news outlets.

I'm hoping that Sinclair will actually become what FOX News claims to be.

Keep hope alive, because the nation bleeds for a truthful media, the way the Founders intended for a free press to operate.
Sinclair just might be that hope...

Now that I completely agree with, FOX changed the optics of news with sex appeal, on a wholesale level.
Turner put a few floosies on - way back, hmmm, who was that Brunette who couldn't stop "kissing the camera" while reading the news?

Whether Ailes deliberately set out to create a "fake conservative outlet" - meeeeeehhhhh!   No, I doubt it.
I think Ailes saw an untapped market and went after it... much like Limbaugh has.

Yes, and it could never be Conservative, because they would be shooting themselves in the foot./
Ailes first introduced the idea to Nixon, who loved it.

There is a lot on the subject, I haven't read through this one yet, but from what I've seen, all the articles refer to the national archives release.
