Looks like in the long run the ball will be in Rosenstein's hands.  Why in the world would President Trump use someone whom Holder appointed to investigate Bammy??

Asked whether that could be taken as a "no," Rosenstein said that he's "simply not in a position to make that decision." He also said, however, that he doesn't presume that Lynch and Boente are correct in not appointing a special counsel. If he were to determine they're wrong, "I would overrule them," he told the panel...

...Much of the questioning before the Senate Judiciary Committee is likely to focus on a commitment by Attorney General Jeff Sessions last week to recuse himself from any investigation involving the Trump campaign. The recusal followed revelations of two previously undisclosed contacts Sessions had last year with the Russian ambassador to the United States.

That would leave such a probe in the hands of Rosenstein, if he's confirmed.

Some Democrats are threatening to block his nomination unless he turns the matter over to a special prosecutor. ...

That is the only answer he could have given. It has been reported this guy has been fully vetted or Trump would not have put him up. My question is how can the dens stop him? They don't have the votes.

Yes that was the appropriate answer. The question still remains as to why President Trump would pick him to begin with? President Trump has accused Bammy of wiretapping so why would he pick someone who investigated Bammy in the past with obviously no result?  IMHO anyone who was selected by Holder and worked under Bammy isn't fit for any position. The last person I would nominate would be anyone who worked under Bammy or his administration.  Rosenstein worked in his administration for the entire 8 years! Yet this is someone Trump wants to keep on?  You can't very well drain the swamp if you keep the same creatures lurking around.

President Trump is supposed to meet with Cruz in the very near future ... hopefully the subject of wiretapping, Sessions and Rosenstein will come up.
