"I regret my health has become an ongoing challenge," Cochran, 80, first elected to the Senate in 1978, said in a statement. "I intend to fulfill my responsibilities and commitments to the people of Mississippi and the Senate through the completion of the 2018 appropriations cycle, after which I will formally retire from the U.S. Senate."

I was living in MS when he first got elected. He was a republican and winning a senate seat in the 70's from MS was a big deal. As time went by he became entrenched as the "establishment".

Will be interesting to see what the RINOGOpe and DEM team have up there sleeve for his replacement. McDaniel who they team up against to get THAD reelected is running again for the other Senator position and they are freaking out that this conservative is back. I am sure McConnell, Ryan, Nancy and the Schmuck have a plan. Does VOTER FRAUD come to mind again????

The current governor is pretty conservative so the initial replacement should be better than Cochran. Then the election will be interesting.

Remember, this is the second time McDaniels ran for the same seat under the banner of TEA, so either he's Right, or a sellout to the Establishment.
What pissed of TEA last time was his answer regarding several issues concerning big govt and spending.
Let's see if he gets his shit together this time around, or simply caves to get McCON support.

McDaniels is somewhat of a mystery.

Yeah, TEA was mad at him over his refusal to state whether supporting the Katrina Bill or not may have cost him the election.
People wanted Conservatives, they'd been burned before and got stuck with a RINO and would have no more of it.
Let's see if he learned a valuable lesson from his last attempt.

I think if he sides with the Con one time, he may be a one-termer, yeah, I think he'll win the seat easy.

Here is another twist to the senate situation in MS. Roger Wicker is also up for reelection this year so MS will elect two senators this fall. That creates some peril for the GOP. The democrats will probably run Mike Espy. Espy is a former congressman who is photogenic, but has a questionable history. If my memory serves me he was an original Obama appointee who had to resign for some reason.
