The Red Skelton Show was a 'must-watch' at my house when I was growing up. My mom and dad made fun of his drawn-out 'And may Gawd bless' sig line, but they loved him for it at the same time.

I'm surprised that, during his full recitation, Skelton doesn't say "under God." The Eisenhower administration got that inserted into the pledge in 1954, and this color video was surely made later than that. Skelton's appearance would tell me it's an early-Sixties show, at which time "under God" was in the official pledge.

Can anyone explain?

You didn't watch it all the way through, he explains it at the end, and ends with a dire prophecy.

I too grew up with Red, my mom didn't think much of the show, but dad bought the TV and By God, he said we're watching Red. 8)
