Title: Pueto Rico Assistance
Post by: topside on September 30, 2017, 04:08:56 PM
I don't get the perspective of the mayor of San Juan. Or maybe I do.

http://therightscoop.com/trump-tweets-attack-on-puerto-rico-mayor/ (http://therightscoop.com/trump-tweets-attack-on-puerto-rico-mayor/)

Was she saying that the U.S. response to PR hurricane(s) is killing them? It sure sounds like it. She's part of the leadership of PR and owns the problems down there. Any help she gets from "outside" isn't owed them. It's a kind gift.

Unless you're helpless and depraved - have become totally dependent on the government. You do with what you have and don't start blaming others. Did they have a plan for disasters - locally and individually?

If an Ohio tornado rips through my neighborhood, I don't count on any government entity to bail me out. Sure, I've purchased insurance to help me rebuild as it is a product offered. And if the national guard shows up to help me and my family with supplies then I'm grateful - it's an unexpected kindness. But if they don't, that's okay. I should be prepared to get my family under cover and keep them fed / watered to the degree that I can. And if our plan isn't sufficient for us to survive, then that's on us.

It's called self preservation and responsibility. The government is only a backup at best.

I'm sorry for what happened in PR and pray for them. I just finished two weeks in FL helping (a few days) people dig out - a kindness I could offer as part of my faith and love for them. Praying for them.

It's hard - but government dependence is not what gets people back on their feet.

Very possible. PR has been in dire economic straits for years, thanks to monolithic left-wing government. There is no equivalent of the Republican or Libertarian parties in PR.

Even Geraldo Rivera has stated that their isn't enough help and that ports are full of supplies but no way to get them to people and not enough truck drivers to deliver the goods.  Roads and passageways have been destroyed and no way to get supplies to people.

Soooooo are they saying PR has no helicopter.     They should be flying 24/7 helping their own people.

That was one of my thoughts as well ... where are the helicopters??  Is the island so devastated that they can't get helicopters into areas??  Does FEMA not have any?

I don't think FEMA actually has any helicopters. They mostly have things like buses and mobile communications centers. They rent trucks and buy and distribute storage facilities and temporary housing -- usually mobile homes.

FEMA is essentially designed to provide coordination, housing, and most especially money after a disaster. Like most federal agencies, FEMA is horribly inefficient and almost incredibly wasteful. The agency's inept performance after Katrina likely cost G. W. Bush whatever legacy he might have had prior to the storm.

What does this clown expect? The island was completely destroyed. I have been there many times. Most houses aren't built to withstand that caliber of a storm. If that sort of storm hit anywhere in the US the damage to the electrical infrastructure would have been the same. And, FEMA can't just roll in. They are hundreds of miles away in the Caribbean.

She is a democrat so she expects everything be provided. Folks this is a carbon copy of how LA and the Mayor of NOLA responded to Katrina.

"Geraldo Rivera"?

Hey Jerry Rivers, why in the Hell is it our responsibility to fix the damn world?
The island is, after all, in a hurricane track, has a record of devastation, any moron that wants to risk their life and live there, is also responsible for their own safety in the aftermath.

These moron bleeding hearts always crack me up with their over the top drama, claiming nothing is being done, yet never personally visited the power station, the water treatment system, never move beyond more than a couple of miles beyond their functioning hotel room.
Rivers lost all credibility decades ago as a circus clown in iraq.

This San Juan major Carmen Yulin Cruz is the Puerto Rican version of Maxime Waters all air and no supstance. Other majors and folks in Puerto Rico are calling her out for her lies.

The ones that are part of the problem in Puerto Rico are the ones that hate President Trump and want to see him fail no matter how many people get hurt, killed, or lose property because of this hurricane. The ones that are part of the solution will help, guide, and empower people where and how they can get help.

Just like everything and everywhere else the battle of hate will be boardcast all over the main street media while love will tackle the problems that exist when situation hit like Hurricane Maria.

Fellow Puerto Rico Mayor Rips San Juan Mayor — 'She's Not Participating In Any Meetings'

The mayor of Guaynabo, Puerto Rico cast serious doubt Saturday on the claims made by San Juan Mayor Carmen Yulin Cruz, who has repeatedly attacked President Trump and accused him of abandoning Puerto Rico in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria.

Isn't that cutting to the heart of a liberal? Always blame someone else, it's always someone else's responsibility when their own policies fail because as a liberal, you let infrastructure take a backseat to social issues.
Where in the Hell are the dozers to open the roads, the helicopters set aside for rescue efforts, the food stores of packaged emergency food in the event of a hurricane?
Oh, that's right, most of that money was spent on brainwashing children in school learning the teachings of Che, setting up abortion clinics around the island, programs to keep the poor, well, poor, rather than teaching them to feed themselves, or how to start a business.
No, these libs lined their pockets as well as their crony Marxist buddies never once expecting to get caught when trouble finally hit the island, so the natural reaction of a lib is, to point blame all around and hope no one points out the obvious truth.

San Juan Mayor to Liberal Media: We Are Getting No Help From Trump – As She Stands In Front of Pallets of Aid

The San Juan mayor accused FEMA and President Trump of offering her no help.
She said this in front of a pallet of US aid.

Also note that in the video she didn't have anyone behind her moving product.
Does Trump have to hand out the water bottles, too?

Can't speak for PR, but here in the States, we all pay twice what it costs to generate power. First the rate payer through fees and taxes, and second, through Federal taxes for infrastructure. Yes, in just the last couple of decades, in concert with local PUC' the rules are all in favor of Fed control over power production (think Green) and quadrupling costs associated, though the majority happened under the Dim Marxist, but assured, the gop'E was there chastising the left, all the while using it as leverage to get their own pork through. (think Omnibus Bill), in other words, the Pubs didn't do shit to stop the left and their "Green' Marxist push.

Guaynabo's mayor, Angel Perez, said in an interview with The Daily Caller that his experience with the federal government has been different from Cruz's, in part because — unlike Cruz — he has been participating in meetings with officials from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and other federal agencies.
