President Trump directs NASA to go back to the Moon, then Mars

This is the final straw for me.  I can't downplay my support for President Trump any longer.

I think he may be the best President in my lifetime, so far.  Count me in for 2020 with one of those red hats.  This space endeavor was one of my wishes that he'd attack because it drives technology and keeps the US on top.  No more Muslim outreach programs, and no more hitching a ride to Russia to get to space.

Thank you Mr. President.

QuotePresident Donald Trump directed NASA Monday to head back to the Moon with the goal of eventually reaching Mars.

"It marks an important step in returning American astronauts to the moon for the first time since 1972 for long term exploration and use," Trump said during a signing ceremony at the White House. "This time we will not only plant our flag, and leave our footprint. We will establish a foundation for an eventual mission to Mars and, perhaps, someday to many worlds beyond."

Trump signed Space Policy Directive 1, which implements the desire of the National Space Council to return astronauts to the Moon and pursue human exploration of Mars.

Trump and Vice President Mike Pence also said there is a military application to further space exploration.

I'm with you on this.
As a Conservative, I battled with my views on this, because it didn't follow the adherents of our Founders, so I thought.
But then I realized over time that going to the moon sent a loud shot to the world, that America is a leader in science and technology, that we can overcome any obstacle, no matter how great the challenge.
The space race was more than a mere race, it's winner would appear superior in every way, because had the Soviets won, it would have been morally destabilizing for capitalism, the American and free worlds system of cooperation.

Nothing has changed, despite the Marxists attempts at demoralizing NASA by making it an outreach program for 7th Century holdovers ruled by an oppressive religion that stifles their own creativity.

As Taxed pointed out, we all gain by these endeavors, from spinoff technology, to establishing dominance in the solar system over those of Commie Red China and their ally, the defeated Russian/Soviet Empire, so now, more than ever, it is important we reestablish our place at the lead with the threat of a growing Communist block in two allied commie powers seeking our destruction.

For what it's worth, I don't think our Founders would have much of an issue with the Fed govt developing our military interests in this manner, for it's not just about new ideas, it's about keeping ahead of our enemies and safeguarding our way of life. It's all about deterrents.

Exactly, and that's a point I forgot to mention.  My entire premise for this is national defense.  If the bad guys are more technologically advanced than we are, then we're in trouble and vulnerable, so I love the President understands that.

I never understood the Muslim outreach thing.

You have to think about all the innovation in science and technology that Islam has blessed us with.

Yes, and most nerds could care less about politics and more about the science.

I think Trump should continue the Muslim outreach program. However instead of NASA it should be Homeland Security.

I am all for including muzzies in the space program.  Sending monkeys into space for testing is too cruel.
