Quote"While we tried to make sure that they were protected from the cars and the other things that were going on," the mayor said of the protesters. "We also gave those who wished to destroy space to do that as well".

I'm sure the local businesses appreciate that.

Reflexive support?  I'll quit supporting the police, when the perps quit giving them reasons to get shot at.  Maybe if people obeyed the law we wouldn't be having all these problems.
Are you blind or just stupid. What reason did Walter Scott give that officer to get shot 8 TIMES IN THE BACK. Why did Eric Garner do to get strangled to death. Some of you stupid arse people don't seem to realize that the police have long since stopped being the friendly neighborhood officer, and have become an arm of the overbearing state. Just asked this conservatives in Milwaukee! Get your head out of the police departments ass, or you'll end up in a police state and you won't even be able to figure out how it happened!

What's with the name calling?  You throw out a blanket assumption at all conservatives, and you got one back.  No I'm not blind or stupid.  I've lived and worked in Los Angeles all my life.  I've seen up close what the police have to deal with on a daily basis.  I'll give them the benefit of the doubt until the facts prove otherwise.
The danger to America is not Barack Obama but the citizens capable of entrusting a man like him with the Presidency.

This is bullshit!  I retired from a careeer is law enforcement as a Captain.  My job was to police the police and I did my job well, but I only did the same job as professional officers in every department all over this country.  We did have bad cops and it was my pleasure to separate them from their badge and their paycheck,  In more than one occassion I helped to put them behind bars where they belonged!   To cherrypick a certin tragic situation here or a certain tragic situation there and then get behind the Kill the Pigs movement is as bad those who are prejudiced against all blacks, because of their own bias about a few they knew, or more often something they heard about.  I find your comments very stupid and offensive!

And I was born, raised and worked in NYC for most of my life. I've seen the police up close and how they act, perhaps my point of view is different because I see how they act toward blacks. I don't give them the benefit of the doubt and NO citizens should give an arm of the state the benefit of the doubt.

No it isn't bullshit. You see things from the point of view of the police, not from the point of view of the average citizen out there. And no, bad police aren't separated from their badge; that's the exception, not the rule. Far too often, the police and the DA combine to sweep it under the rug. Even when - like Eric Garner - we have the police misbehavior on film. They can always find those stupid people out there who believe the police "are always right". Besides, "it's just some minority". BTW, cop's lives matter no more than that of the ordinary citizen. Their lives aren't so special that they are allowed to use any and all methods to preserve them. That their job is dangerous is a given, but they knew that going in. If they feel it's so dangerous they can't work under the rules, perhaps they should find another one.

BTW, if the citizens are being compared to a lynch mob, perhaps the police should be compared to a street gang!

The average citizen is the person who is protected by the police from the violence and intimidation of these gangster street thugs, every single day.  Many, Many, more black people are murdered by blacks than are killed by police.  Most police shootings are justified by the circumstances and within the law.  Occassionally thngs go wrong or even a bad cop does something like we saw with the shooting of that fleeing suspect eight times in the back.  Guess what, that cop was arrested for murder!

I feel sorry for you that you obviously have so much hate for the police.  You are entitled to vent all you want, just as the protesters can...but when they cross the line and become violent, our police are the people that our society has entrusted to protect and to serve the public, by quelling the violence using whatever force is necessary and appropriate.  Under the law, civilians have no right to use force against a police officer; they do so at their own peril.  Or don't you believe in obeying the laws that society has made to keep us from decending into violent anarchy?

Eric Garner died of a cardiac arrest in the ambulance on the way to a hospital. He was not strangled. We need to stick to the facts in discussing things, else people will start calling us liberals.

When you have the Mayor of Baltimore saying,  " We want to give them enough room to destroy" and the Governor is doing virtually nothing, you have to wonder who is really pulling the strings in this chaos.  These hoodlums did not even know the kid that died in custody.  They have been incited to cause trouble and bring this to a national level.... possibly inciting other gangs throughout the country.

Why are all the political pundits so "puzzled" by all of this?  Why does it not make sense to them?

Obviously they are unwilling to entertain the idea that there is a hidden agenda within this Administration to create an atmosphere that calls for martial law and a justification for extreme measures by the President.

Okay, this post belongs on the "conspiracy theory" thread!   :glare:

With a statement like that couldn't that make the city liable for damages to businesses they pulled protection from?

Most of this nonsense is an excuse to riot, loot and run amok. The theory is "let the riot blow itself out". Rather than try to stop it (which will cause more injuries likely to Cops) as well as rioters and possibly innocent persons. They'll get tired and go home...with arm fulls of loot.

I've been thru this before, a lot to it, but I'd let the jerks do the same thing, burn their own neighborhoods down then bitch about lack of food, water, liquor stores and toilet paper.

This is akin to paying protection money to the Mob. It never ends.
It's the same reason we don't negotiate with terrorists taking hostages. They just take more hostages.
But stop it in it's tracks and the riots will cease.

So what have the rioters learned?
