Looks that way.

Sarah Palin says she is seriously considering a run for the White House, and she believes she could beat President Obama in 2012, the former Alaska governor told ABC News' Barbara Walters.

Asked Walters: "If you ran for president, could you beat Barack Obama?"

"I believe so," Palin said.

Palin won't run, and if she does, she'll lose.  I'm not concerned about November of 2012.  I don't believe that our country is going to survive until then.

Funny thing is, I don't watch the "alphabet channels" at all, and I rarely watch Fox News Channel.

This country is not going to survive the current economic crisis.  The Titanic has collided with the iceberg, and is taking on water.  Moving around the deck chairs by electing some new Republicans will not stop this ship from sinking.

WHEN the U.S. dollar collapses, it will start a chain reaction that will lead to mass chaos and anarchy, especially in the big cities.  If you live in rural areas, get prepared for the worst.  If you live in large cities, God help you.

What you all do from this point forward will determine whether or not you and your families survive.  Those who don't believe that "the sky is falling" are making a huge, and final, error in judgment.

Just what exactly do you all think I do all day, every day?  Twiddle my fingers and post stuff in here?  I do the research that most of you can't do because you're busy with your jobs and other things.  There are many people who are heeding my warnings, and they are getting prepared for what is going to happen.

Which is exactly why it will not collapse.
There is too much at stake, the richest people and those that control the money, can't afford a total collapse.

With that said, yes, it's beyond smart to prepare for the worst, that is only prudent, and we are in for some very tough times ahead, no doubt.
But the places you look for information also shares your vision of a doomed future, that circle feeds on itself.

Take China for example, they hold our debt, do you think for one moment they want riots in their streets over food?
Not on your life! China Europe, Australia and the rest will most likely do what is necessary to keep the dollar stable.

But like I said, there will be a couple of years where the most basic of goods will be terribly expensive, that seems to be a given.

So in a sense, a few chunks of sky will fall, but as long as people are prepared, they shouldn't get hit.
But I'll tell ya this, I wouldn't want to be in one of the major cities of the Country.

AF, show me what you believe to be proof of an imminent collapse, like a link to your sources.
I'll be more than happy to review your evidence.

We wouldn't have long after that 2012 election. At least, the Mayan calendar says December 12, yes? After eight years of Obama, that asteroid or whatever-it-is will probably look mighty good.

Solar, I don't have any particular "sources" that I prefer over others.  I watch documentaries on TV.  I go to various business websites.  I do a lot of research on bank failures and Wall Street shenanigans.  I am obviously very interested in what silver and gold prices are doing.

I am a "statistics" guy.  I don't care about "opinions".  I seek FACTS, not subjective bullshit.

I am fully capable of reaching my own objective conclusions.  I am not some impressionable young kid.  I've been around awhile, and I've lived through many economic upturns and downturns.  This is the WORST economic condition this country has EVER been in, and I mean EVER, including the "Great Depression".

If you believe the government-issued, propaganda driven statistics, you are only fooling yourselves.  EVERYBODY who is intelligent knows that inflation is rising rapidly and the unemployment rate is DOUBLE what the government reports.

Things that most people take for granted, like the power grid and the distribution infrastructure of goods, are so fragile that ANY sort of major disruption (terrorist attacks, financial collapse, etc.) will lead to the collapse of our way of life.

Quiller, this Mayan Calendar "end of the world" date is December 21, 2012.  I thoroughly researched it, and even though I initially thought it had some validity, I now don't buy into it at all.  Just a bunch of nonsense.

Solar

I was hoping you'd share some of what you believe is the smoking gun of stats.

If the grid went down, it would not send the Country into chaos, the West coast all the way to the Rockies went down several years ago, and we survived.
People still have radios, so the word would get out that there has been a disruption.
Not to mention it's pretty hard to knock out the entire grid.

Which brings up another pet peeve of mine, we should have at least 50 small nuke reactors around the Country for just this kind of event.
This could prevent islanding, and allow every State to keep functioning.

I'm not talking about sections of the country losing power for a few hours, or even a few days.  I'm talking about WEEKS and MONTHS.  What happens then?

Solar, you're already off the grid, so you of all people should be very well read on what would happen if MILLIONS of people had no electricity for many weeks and/or months.

And you are also probably well aware of the fact that the "nationwide" power grid is a hodge-podge of outdated equipment and distribution districts and regions that are in no way intertwined into a "national" grid.

The last major non-weather related power grid collapse on the east coast occurred when a transformer in OHIO failed.  It cut electric power to MILLIONS of people.

Your nuke plant idea is great, except that we don't have five or more years to build them, and there certainly isn't any "urgency" coming out of D.C. to build them.

Back in the mid-90s, there was a big ice storm in the northeast, and some people lost power for up to two weeks.  It was an absolute DISASTER.  People died.  There were gas shortages.  Grocery stores were emptied.  Radio stations were transmitting for only a few hours a day at most.  Multiply this situation by a few more weeks, and see what happens.

Just look at the fustercluck with Hurricane Katrina.  New Orleans and other areas on the gulf coast are STILL an absolute mess, and how many years has it been?

I'll never forget all of those people who were stuck on the freeway overpasses in New Orleans, and all of the people who fled to the Superdome, and me shouting at the TV "get these people some food and water!  Where the hell are the FEMA people and the helicopters!"

You just fell for a lib plan to upgrade to the so called smart grid.
There is nothing antiquated about the grid, it is by far better than any comparable power system on the Planet.

Since that happened, we have upgraded so the islanding and surge effect won't happen again, that is if we build more power plants, that is our Achilles Heal.

You're correct, and that was part of the plan to trick people into believing we have an energy crisis, which we do not.

Again, this has been remedied.

That was a local gov failure, nothing more.

They get absolutely no sympathy from me, if someone wants to live below sea level, and not heed the warnings that were sent out, they deserve exactly what they get.
New Orleans is a cesspit of bottom feeders totally dependent upon the Gov teat.

The power grid in this country is indeed antiquated.  In fact, it is a MESS.

I don't know anything about a liberal "smart grid" plan.  Never heard of it.

I worked in nuclear power plants and coal-fired power plants for MANY years, Solar.  Engineering.  I know nuke plants like I know the back of my hand.  I was the senior test engineer at several coal-fired power plants.

I am confident that I know what I am talking about when it comes to power plants and the power grid.

As for New Orleans, assigning blame for who didn't do what and whose fault the Katrina aftermath was, doesn't change the fact that people needlessly DIED.

My whole point was that it didn't take a whole helluva lot to cause a complete and total collapse of local, state, and federal government services, and the "keystone cops" response by these entities was frightening, considering that everybody had several DAYS to get prepared for Hurricane Katrina.

One isolated hurricane.  One terrorist attack on one sunny day in September of 2001.  How many BILLIONS of dollars, probably TRILLIONS of dollars, did these two "events" cost this country?  How much lingering damage was done?

Imagine if a really LARGE catastrophe were to ever happen to this country.  Just imagine the cost......................
