WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama demanded on Monday that lawmakers raise the nation's $16.4 trillion federal debt limit quickly, warning that "Social Security benefits and veterans' checks will be delayed" if they don't and cautioning Republicans not to insist on cuts to government spending in exchange.

Said it in another post but it is more appropriate here.  Raise it enough for one month. Then every month let the press wonder if they are going to raise it again.  Never threaten to not vote for it but remind everyone how much we are borrowing.

If the Republicans want my respect every last one of them will vote "present", and let the Democrats pass the increase to the National Debt.

Obama is lying, as usual.

When he says that congress must raise the debt ceiling to pay the bills that are already owed; He is including every single agency, department, wasteful program, etc., as existing debt..............which it isn't.

The sheer depth of his dishonesty is appalling.

I hope they find the courage to do something like what you suggest or that shows they are willing to risk their job in the name of doing what is right for the country.  I think they need to constantly parrot what Obama said when he voted against raising the limit and say it as part of every answer they give so that the mainstream media is forced to at some point air the hypocrisy of Obama and the Dem party.  I hate when politicians do that but the media is more like Pravda than a free and open press so the GOP has to force feed this information to the public.

Obama, his administration and the bulk of the Democratic party seem to have no shame when they make the most asinine and/or hypocritical statements.  Every measure that would justify his statements then are even worse today.  Yet it was unpatriotic then and now it is unwise and unpatriotic not to pass it with no strings attached.

I've heard a few conservative talkers just chuckling about how Obama and pals are lying their asses off about who's to blame for not negotiating, what the actual dynamics are of "paying the bills", and so on....while the GOP idiots sit quietly on their hands, letting the press and populace absorb all the lies.

You'd think Boehner couldn't possibly stand to look like a giant p***y twice in a couple weeks.  Could he ?

Obama is lobbing a softball to the GOP and they won't even pick up a bat. Good point Andy.

A perfect analogy!

The fact that we are here today to debate raising America's debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. government can't pay its own bills. ... I therefore intend to oppose the effort to increase America's debt limit.

I really would like to know what the GOP is doing? Does Boehner even have a PLAN? I am a diehard Conservative Republican and always voted Republican out of loyalty for the party even as the lesser of two evils. But at this point a third party is worth a look since the GOP don't even want to bat, they DO and SAY NOTHING! :cursing:

Yep passed the spending bill for that storm disaster with all the pork that was in it when they refused to pass it.  I mean what the hell are they doing.  And again the bill passed because the Dem's supported it with enough Rep's to allow it to pass.  Seems like the Dem's are running the house.

I used to be involved in a great deal of business negotiations and I only wish that I faced more people like Boehner.  Seems to have no plan or strategy and is out maneuvered every time.
