Australia? What have they done? It's Australia. The only people more laid back than them are the Jamaicans and the Hawaiians. Who's next, Canada?

China is communism, they don't act, they plan centuries ahead.
China knows one day the US will no longer be the leader, it's inevitable, and china is playing its cards accordingly, they have no need for war when the people of our country are our own worst enemy in destroying the very thing that made us great, our culture based on faith.
This is why they don't want us giving Japan or SK nuclear technology. This is why they'll keep the little fat prick in line, even if it means killing him off.

China WAS the de-facto Leader of the World long ago.

They simply were not interested in adding barbarians to their Empire, saw no advantage to doing so, and so did not.

Before you conquer the World you need to identify why you might even want to.

Consider Puerto Rico. Although I know several Puerto Rican individuals, who work very hard, and ARE assets to the USA, I fear the majority of them, especially on the island, are a net loss.

Given the power, I'd grant them Independence immediately.

Would the USA be better off annexing Guatemala ?

I would even suggest that the ROMAN EMPIRE fell because it began annexing areas that were more trouble than they were worth.

Before my PR friends get bent out of shape, there are more than one US STATES we could well do without.

Western CA comes to mind right off.

That's one state that needs to be TWO or THREE asap !

If it is Canada, then count on Justin Trudeau to offer Crazy Fat Kid a few thousand pounds of premium B.C. Bud to smoke, as an alternative to the cheap Chinese knockoff hallucinogens he's been on.

Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop wasn't very worried about Kim's boast...or the spokesman for opposing party views.

She shouldn't be, once again, Vegas Odds makers would have a field day with how far off the launch pad any rocket/delivery device would get before exploding over North Korean Air space as has been the case since they have been trying this.

I suspect their "rocket scientists" have been getting two behind the left ear everytime they have a failure and literally it is Back to the old drawing board again.

It's not the Fat Boy that I'm so worried about, it's China.

I wouldn't be too worried about China. All the money they've floated us in loans and all the US property they own, not to mention the trade deficit, buys us some leverage against NK doing something overt.

China supplied a lot of the parts the North is using. As it stands, there are two NK satellites now crossing the U.S. every day, and we do not know what they are up there for. Current fears are they are to assist in a national power interruption (EMP attack).

China also launched its first aircraft carrier this week. That's not going to make Japan sleep any better as Chinese efforts expand, building South China Sea islands for Chinese military use.

An attack that would disrupt the US economy? Then what happens to all the money China lent us, not to mention the Chinese economy because one of their better trade partners is recovering from an EMP attack?

And all those Chinese business in the US? What happens to them in the EMP scenerio? What happens to all the Chinese students attending US universities?

Any society as old as their views things in far longer terms than we do with only a few centuries behind us. You ask the unanswerable, although I dare say their people are MUCH more used to living at a bare-subsistence-level than we are. EMP wouldn't inconvenience them nearly as much as us.

I would disagree.

During the 60s, the theory that kept the US and Soviet Union (who also, following to your argument, were much more used to living at a bare subsistence level and wouldn't be incovenienced nearly as much as the US) from unleashing the four horsemen was known as MAD (Mutally Assured Destruction).

Both the US and the Soviets,  knew that if they pressed the button everything they  knew was gone. (What's it Einstein said? He didn't know what weapons swould be used in World War III, but he knew the weapons that would be used in World War IV. Rocks.)

Face it, life is better in both the US and China than in a good portion of the world. You see, people, once they get a taste of the high life, want to maintain it and will do nearly anything to keep it.

Thus it is with China, they know the consequences of allowing a madman's tizzy to work its way to a full blown snit.

China may find it easier to live as a bare subsistence level, but I doubt they'd do so willingly.
