Could this be a move towards a VP position over Pence in 2020?
VP? Perhaps; I had not considered that, but it just might figure into her 'equation'.
When this all came out in this morning's news what did cross my mind is that 1) Her job certainly was/is one to apply huge pressures on normal life and living conditions, and 2) We have, what, 28 days before the mid-terms? Since every one of those 28 days will likely add to the distractions, will the Republican base get distracted from the importance of the elections? Distracted enough to become, once more, complacent?
I certainly hope not. The festering hatred the democrat/progressives feel will not allow THEM to become complacent, I believe.
Democrats have demonstrated an alarming amount of feral anger. I do not see any diminution of that likely.

I believe this "Feral Anger" is a creation of their media, and protesters paid for by Soros for media consumption.
There never was a "Blue Wave", that was a Utopian dream cooked up by leftist media, and the Right wing Base has not wavered in the least since 2010 and continues to grow.
We don't the full reason, but at this point I take her at her word. What I do know is the media is in a tizzy over this and speculating to no end. Solar's suggestion of her as a VP candidate is valid. I have believed her performance at the UN puts her place as a presidential candidate in the future.

Her career is at a peak, and taking a break at this point so high in the game, gives her an opening in whatever she pursues, and if we're to elect the first female POTUS, Nikki is the perfect candidate after having served as VP to Trump.
I have noticed that the radical left wing media is very selective <careful> as to what they air/show.
The latest figures I saw was that a bit over 90% of the "news" (fake news) that the media has shown previously is anti-Trump, anti-conservative. Poorly educated children/quasi-adults of the democrat/progressive herd will firmly identify with whatever those propaganda outlets release.
The good news so far is that the behavior of those that clawed at the Senate doors and the repulsive "allegations" against Kavanaugh seemed to even have repulsed some democrats and some moderates. One can only hope this is an indication of better times in the offing.
I'm hoping and praying it's because the United States of America is getting out of the United Nation and President Trump is kicking off our soil.
Something tells me wishful thinking on my part.
Seriously doubt we are getting out of the UN. I also had not considered the VP spot but I do not think now would be the time to drop out of the picture. I think that she has done a great job and would be a serious contender for the top spot when Trump leaves. I think she is getting out when everything is going good, not much more for her to gain by staying at the UN. It also gives her time to separate from Trump who in spite of all the success has a big block of people going out of their minds.
What ever her plans are I am sure that she will be back in the public eye and building on what she has already accomplished.
