So Whitman claims to know nothing about her maid being an illegal alien,
all but accuses her maid of stealing a letter from Social Security re: her immigration status
so that Whitman and her husband wouldn't know that she was an illegal,
and then when the letter turns up with her husband's handwritten note acknowledging
receipt of the letter
, she tap dances around the issue as if she has no responsibility
for hiring an illegal alien and then lying about not knowing about it?  She's going down in flames.

Welcome back, Governor Brown!

Beau, you really do have it all wrong, seriously.

If you can keep an open mind, put yourself in Meg's place, her nanny gets a letter from immigration and the husband sees it and puts a note on the bottom for the nanny to check up on it, that was the last they ever heard about it.

Now keep in mind, the nanny lied to the employment agency, lied to the Whitmans, and showed false identification.

As an employer, with a friend of the family employed, that they trust with the care of their children, do you really think they knew she was an illegal?

Keep in mind, they trusted this woman implicitly.

Welcome back, Governor Brown!

I am still trying to understand what she did wrong?  She went through an agency so wasn't it their responsibility to verify?   You are making her, Whitman,  damned if she does and damned if she don't...  If you hire a Mexican gardener and he hires undocumented workers are you responsible? :-\ :-\ :-\

Personally I will do my best to keep Brown out.
I pray, not wish because I have a God not a Genie.

Alred was on Greta Van Susteran's show tonight. Greta a fellow lawyer destroyed Alred's argument, simply by reading the document Alred claims is a smoking gun. Alred is not stupid. She's a good lawyer she simply cannot defend nor explain her client's position because there is no defense. That is because there is no case.  This whole thing is a political calculation. I think Alred knows she screwed up but is in too deep...

I agree, she has lost every argument when the interviewer actually knows something about the law.
You're right, she is looking for the exit about now.

Where did she accuse her maid of stealing the letter?

Still, a couple days ago Whitman was denying any knowledge of her maid's status
as well as denying knowledge of the letter that her husband read and wrote a note on.
She fairly accused her maid of stealing or concealing the letter which she had to know about.
Either she is lying, or her husband knew about it and didn't tell her even after this became an issue.
No matter what you choose to believe, it doesn't bode well for a billionaire trying to become the
next governor on the premise that she is an all together organizational business maveness.
If she ever had a chance, I don't believe that she has one now.  Get used to Brown 2010.

I can barely remember what I did two weeks ago let alone 7 years ago... :) :) :)

Did it ever occur to you that maybe he didn't think it was that big of a deal?
After all, it was addressed to her, so he made sure she saw it and figured she would deal with it.

If it was me, I would think they get letters like that all the time, considering immigration issues and how screwed up our system is.

A lot of people don't realize how common names don't match up with their SSN.  My name didn't match, for instance.  it is pretty common, and doesn't mean the person is not legal.

You'd remember if your maid's immigration status was being investigated by Social Security or not.
Or if you received a letter questioning that status, or if you read it and wrote on it, or if you ever
took the time to follow up on it to make sure that she was indeed a legally registered alien.
You'd especially remember it if you were running for Governor and it had come up as an issue
that you had chosen to ignore or deflect or obfuscate or lie about.  At least you should be able
to remember it if you are claiming to be qualified to be the Governor of the most populous state in
the Union.  And if you can't remember, or worse yet if you did remember and then lied about it,
then you shouldn't be surprised if you are not elected Governor of that very same state.

It didn't question her status.

But it was merely a form letter inquiry, it was not an investigation.
The guy in charge of immigration said that it was the first letter sent out when they have questions, he said they do a follow up letter to the employer, a letter they never got.

They paid the woman $24.00 an hour, how many illegals get that kind of money?

So you get one letter you give it to her and never hear anything back from the government.  Why only one letter - this is the government after all.  If there was no follow up letter then you figure it was taken care and there was nothing to worry about.  That is of course until the offending party comes back to finally confess to you they are undocumented when they realize you are running for office and this could maybe be a problem.

And yes Bama Beau - as a female I can tell you selective memory comes in very handy. ;) ;)

That's it exactly, you would figure she handled it, seeing how immigration services never came out in person.
