What is funny about this is Whitman did absolutely nothing wrong, and I have no idea what Allred is doing or trying to represent.

That's just it, she did absolutely nothing wrong.
It's akin to hiring a landscaping company, and they employ illegals.
The guy that owns the business is solely responsible, not the person that hired the company.
Meg did the same, she employed a company that sent her an applicant that they had cleared.

If I buy a gun from a reputable dealer, that turns out to be hot, I am the victim, as is meg.

It really is  a no win situation.  Unfortunately from what I have understood, even if you (your company) didn't know they were undocumented and you let them go when you found out you can still be fined.  So it seems the only way around this and your best bet to avoid it is to never hire anyone Hispanic.   :P :P

I was listening to my favorite news talk this morning and one of the callers said they worked for a construction company.  If they accepted the documents they provided and it later came back that they weren't - even if they let them go they were fined...  At least that's how I understood it...  This appears to be  a ST research project... :-\ :-\

If this situation existed in a state where common sense and decency prevailed this would not be an issue.  Once again the left can't win on issues so they attack or smear.  It's back to square one for California and the liberals prove the last thing they want is change.

So I checked a couple of sites...

With today's complex immigration and labor laws, an employer with foreign workers must be careful to avoid violating immigration and anti-discrimination laws at all stages of the employer/employee relationship. Issues regarding immigration and anti-discrimination laws can occur during the hiring period, the employment phase, and at termination. For example, if a worker presents a temporary work authorization document from the Immigration Service at the time the worker is hired, the employer must not only make a good faith effort to verify the legitimacy of the document, but also re-verify the employee's work authorization at the time the initial authorization expires. 

The employer could also be fined $100 to $1,000 for each individual "paperwork" violation.

So even if you make the good faith effort and the paperwork comes back hinky you can still be fined....
