And it wasn't my intention to allege that the right is racist, it's inflammatory language of some that leads to the other side painting you all as such in order to discredit what I see as valid points. I agree with certain aspects of conservatism, but your point gets muddled by childish name calling and intolerance, even if those voicing these views are in the minority.

Solar doesn't need me to speak for him and I'm sure he'll be along to answer you directly but when you preface your comments by saying both sides are guilty and then aim your comments at the right, on a conservative board...it makes you come across as nothing more than an instigator looking to push people's buttons and overshadows any legitimate point you might make.

So my point that we should have genuine debate is discredited because I'm not partisan enough?

I don't know how you derived that from what I said but take it up with Solar.  No one, at least not me is discrediting you but your posts have a certain  "edge" about them.   Call it a lack of sincerity in wanting to discuss/debate.  More like subtle attacks seems to be the way they come across.

But I don't run the show here, so post away.

I'm sorry if I come across as a shit disturber, I just don't want people thinking I'm some through and through liberal. I agree with aspects of both ideologies and it bums me out when we obscure meaningful discussion about real issues because we're too busy bickering about whose side is better. I don't believe either side has all the answers and if we want productive progress to happen I believe working together is more effective than the brand of spiteful and divisive politics we have now.

Your 2nd post on the poli forum was to create a racist straw man, or an image that racism was somehow prevalent on the right.
And you wonder why people take offense?

Just be yourself and post but keep in mind you're on a Conservative forum and hence when you "go liberal" (and that's fine if that's how you really feel) it's likley to be met unenthusiastically.

I've only been herer a short time but I appreciate that they only want facts here...and ones that can be backed up.   Just my 2 cents.

Yeah my first post on this thread was a bit antagonistic I agree. Sorry for that. I was trying to point out that it's words like muscum that lead to some people seeing the right in an intolerant or prejudiced light.

No need to apologize to me.  I'm no one around here...barely above the "newbie" level.

Only the ignorant, not trying to be insulting, but anyone that's ever read the Koran knows it's a farce.

Solar you can say that about every single religion that exists. I'm an atheist so I personally think they are all farces. I do think that they all deserve respect as all religions have their psychotic fringe and are mostly made up of good people. Just like any group, including liberals, conservatives, atheists, Arabs, Americans and so on.

No other Religion considers women second class citizens.
I respect all Religions as well, but the Muslum belief system is a political way of life disguised as a Religion.
Big difference!

In certain regions I agree, the treatment on women is appalling. But that's more of a social issue, or potentially political depending on if this discrimination is institutionalized. But look at northern Ghana, in tamale the population is a majority Muslim and having lived there for almost a year I have great respect for those who interpret the religion in a compassionate light, as many do. Unfortunately peaceful, friendly Muslims isn't good news compared to bad guys exploding..

This is true, I worked with some very kind and generous Muslim women, I also met a few that I dare say no more about.  Every group has whackados.  Those who decide what constitutes a Christian from only watching the news probably thinks we are all buck-toothed hicks, or just plain evil.  Why?  The news won't talk to your normal, everyday, boring Christian (like me).

hailtothethief

Yeah exactly Kari. Imagine if I assumed you were the Westboro baptist type just because you're a Christian? Or treated Christians badly because of them? It would be pretty irrational and it goes the same for muslims
