I understand, but we've past that point, so much so, the left stole the narrative that social issues are directly linked to the religious right, and these mind numbed kids want no part of religion, that they'd see TEA as a social movement and reject it.
So first things first, gut Govt, and by doing so, we kill off leftist programs like Planned parenthood, welfare and a long list of social progs that only indenture fools to the left.
This is why TEA needs to remain free of allowing the left to paint it as a social movement and allow us to gut govt first.

This is what the left does when it comes to TEA. They do not know how to deal with the basis for TEA so they attempt to distract from the TEA purpose with insertion of social and racial issues.

Here is an interesting and fair perspective  on the fore runner of the Tea Party,
the conservative Christian movement of the '80's and '90's.

Did you link to the correct article? I just read it and I didn't see anything in there linking conservative Christianity in the '80's and '90's to the Tea Party.

Neither did I. I think Red was just trying to generate discussion on the issue, and there's nothing wrong with that, problem is, the only ones making the connection, as Super pointed out, is the left and the GOP'e.
