Kids know and understand their rights.  It's the game they have been playing for over 50 year.

They should learn the at home before going out.  Not after being pick up by a cop.

This generation of kids see things differently. It is their right to a free education. It is their right to free healthcare. It is their right to free everything else. It is their right to say anything they want. It is their right to not be exposed to differing opinions. It is their right to use fascist tactics to protest fascism.

It is there right to move out of the house anytime they like.  If they can not live by the house rules.  Mother rules for kids are law.

I love those smug looks a teenager gives you when suggest they can "move out".... pay your own way, car, insurance, housing, electric, water, and if you have enough left you can buy food.  The buck stops here, and you and start paying your own way - anytime!

I get it though, defining the Miranda Rights...
Questioning authority, because they think everything is negotiable.

On the other hand, at what age are people most likely to brag about their crime & even post it on facebook?

It's not like 90+ years ago.  When you could work for room and board and get some change in your pocket at weeks end.  Before you get a real job that you could be on your own.

Here is a kicker for ya, our Dept demanded that we read a kid under 16 his rights ONLY in front of a parent or guardian and explain those rights to the Parent or Guardian as well. It also used to be when a Juvy was arrested you couldn't even talk to him unless a detective from the Juvenile Division was there. THey did away with that when we started picking up juvies who had two or three homicide shootings on their record.

Our attitude in dealing with Juvenile crimes is still stuck in the days when the worst you had were window breaking and "joy riding" in stolen cars....circa 1950.

Just +40 years ago, I did that.  Hard work in the morning & evening, spent the middle of the day in training - they gave me housing & food, occasionally a few dollars because I was saving them so much money not having to hire someone.  I knew what I needed, went after it, and turned it into a lucrative career... for a number of years.  Funny thing though, nobody needed to say, "get a job" - you just sort of understood that.
