The Left doesn't need or even seek out smart people. The Left ran a choice of Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders for president last year. Smart ain't what they're after.
It's not surprising that, in attacking Cruz, she referred to other "journalist" reports from 2012, not any sort of poll or analysis. She was saying, "We attacked you in 2012; why shouldn't we attack you now?"
