The paleo-conservative/libertarian/ devout Christian in the Catholic idiom, Joseph Sobran, Jr., died yesterday.  He worked for the National Review until both the magazine and the soul of William F. Buckley was taken over by the neo-cons who have both fascist and communist roots.

He was a devout Catholic and wrote for the Catholic publications The Wanderer and The Catholic Family News.  He also wrote articles for the paleo-conservaitve magazine Chronicles, the online version of which can be found at this address: http://www.chroniclesmagazine.org/

He was friends with the late Sam Francis and the late Mel Bradford, two fellow paleo-conservatives as well as the late libertarian Murray Rothbard.  Among the yet living, he fellowshipped with Dr. Thomas Fleming, a well known author and editor of the paleo ilk and with Hans Hermann-Hoppe, the author of the work Democracy: The God That Failed.

It would appear that a devout Christian, a deeply conservative man who wrote for some of the best Christian and conservative organs of publication in the United States has at his passing no resonance with the current conservative community.  Neither, it would appear, do men like Sam Francis and Mel Bradford or even Richard Weaver.

Other than Murray Rothbard, I am not acquainted with the others.

Having been called a paleo-conservative, among other adjectives, I am familiar with the term.
