A North Carolina man was arrested Sunday night for allegedly starting a riot over the weekend that led to the toppling and damaging of two Confederate monuments in the state capitol in Raleigh.



Conrad Paul James, 27, has been charged with inciting a riot—a felony in North Carolina—first-degree trespass, resisting an officer, and injury to personal property, according to a news release from the North Carolina Department of Public Safety.

James was part of the Friday and Sunday night demonstrations when two statues of Confederate soldiers that were part of a larger obelisk were torn down by protesters.

"According to the arresting officer, last night the suspect jumped the fence around the Three Presidents monument in Union Square and failed to go back to the other side of the fence after being told to do so several times," State Capitol Police Chief Chip Hawley said.

"The arresting officer reported that after being placed under arrest, the suspect began to resist, kicking violently at the officer and the officer's patrol vehicle, causing damage to it. Further investigation concluded the suspect was also a suspect in the events involving the monuments at the capitol Friday night," he continued.

A prosecutor has filed terrorism charges against three individuals following violent riots in Oklahoma in late May. Oklahoma County District Attorney David Prater said he's hopeful the tough approach will deter violence at future protests.

"This is not Seattle," the district attorney said Friday. "We're not putting up with this lawlessness here."

"Several people were carrying flags that were identified as belonging to the following groups: Antifa, Soviet Union (communism), American Indian Movement, Anarcho-Communism (solid red) and the original Oklahoma flag ... currently adopted by Oklahoma Socialists," police noted in court documents filed along with the charges, as reported by The Oklahoman.

The district attorney has also charged others with various offenses, including incitement to riot and assault and battery upon a police officer.

Chinese National Guilty of Laundering Millions for Mexican Drug Cartels
A Chinese national pleaded guilty today to conspiracy to commit money laundering in connection with laundering more than $4 million in drug proceeds generated by large-scale cocaine trafficking in the United States.

Assistant Attorney General Brian A. Benczkowski of the Justice Department's Criminal Division; U.S. Attorney G. Zachary Terwilliger for the Eastern District of Virginia; Special Agent in Charge Wendy C. Woolcock of the Drug Enforcement Administration's (DEA) Special Operations Division and Special Agent in Charge Jeffrey T. Scott of the DEA Louisville Field Division; Jason Crosby, Chief of the Criminal Investigations Division of the U.S. Department of State's Diplomatic Security Service (DSS); and Special Agent in Charge James Gibbons of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Chicago, Illinois, made the announcement after U.S. District Judge Leonie M. Brinkema accepted the plea.

According to court documents, Xueyong Wu, 40, cultivated relationships with Latin American drug trafficking organizations to transport and launder their United States-based drug proceeds.  Wu is scheduled to be sentenced on Sept. 29.

Much of this money was repatriated to Mexico through a complex series of international financial transactions. Wu received a percentage of the money involved in these transactions as compensation for organizing these laundering activities.  Much of this money was generated through movement of cocaine or payment for cocaine that took place within the Eastern District of Virginia.

Assistant U.S. Attorneys Michael P. Ben'Ary and David A. Peters, along with Trial Attorneys Steve Sola and Kerry Blackburn of the Criminal Division's Money Laundering and Asset Recovery Section are prosecuting the case.
