Engineers Sentenced for Stealing Tech From US Chipmaker Micron and Transferring It to China

U.S. memory chipmaker Micron scored a major legal victory after a local court found two of its former employees guilty of passing trade secrets to a Chinese company.

Two engineers at Taiwanese contract chipmaker United Microelectronics Corporation (UMC) leaked technology from their former employer and used the trade secrets in a cooperation project with Chinese state-owned semiconductor manufacturer Fujian Jinhua Integrated Circuit, the court ruled. Their supervisor was also convicted for his involvement in the scheme.

The district court in central Taiwan's Taichung City on June 12 sentenced the three UMC staff to prison for 4.5 to 6.5 years. It also found UMC guilty of violating Taiwan's law on trade secrets and fined it $100 million New Taiwan Dollars (about $3.37 million).

UMC, Fujian Jinhua, the two engineers, and another UMC employee were indicted on similar charges by U.S. federal prosecutors in November 2018.

Fifty-four scientists have lost their jobs as a result of NIH probe into foreign ties

Some 54 scientists have resigned or been fired as a result of an ongoing investigation by the National Institutes of Health into the failure of NIH grantees to disclose financial ties to foreign governments. In 93% of those cases, the hidden funding came from a Chinese institution.

The new numbers come from Michael Lauer, NIH's head of extramural research. Lauer had previously provided some information on the scope of NIH's investigation, which had targeted 189 scientists at 87 institutions. But his presentation today to a senior advisory panel offered by far the most detailed breakout of an effort NIH launched in August 2018 that has roiled the U.S. biomedical community, and resulted in criminal charges against some prominent researchers, including Charles Lieber, chair of Harvard University's department of chemistry and chemical biology.

"It's not what we had hoped, and it's not a fun task," NIH Director Francis Collins said in characterizing the ongoing investigation. He called the data "sobering."

NIH has been in the forefront of federal efforts to identify and block behavior that many U.S. government officials say poses a significant threat to the country's economic well-being and to national security. Several bills pending in Congress seek to limit that threat in various ways, including by limiting the flow of scientific talent from China to the United States, and by restricting access to federally funded research that provides a foundation for cutting-edge technologies and new industries.

Lauer's presentation also provided a glimpse into the scope of that broader investigation. There are 399 scientists "of possible concern" to NIH, he told the advisory council, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation has fingered 30% (121) of them. An additional 44 have been flagged by their own institutions. Of that pool, Lauer said, investigations into 63%, or 256 scientists, came out "positive." Investigations into some 19% came up "negative," he noted, whereas the status of the remaining 18% is "pending."

I am sick of watching these so called peaceful protesters. Their protesting against the police is ridicules. What are the cops supposed to do when they get into a fight with someone with a weapon? Even a stun gun. What is a cop supposed to do when someone resists a simple arrest physically? I have seen cops dragged by cars, hit with many objects that actually could kill you. My brother in law cop has suffered a broken finger in a fight, a broken ankle jumping a fence chasing a criminal and a broken leg directing traffic in a snow storm because the traffic light was not working. He got hit by a car sliding in the snow. I have a nephew motorcycle cop hit by a car and had a serious knee injury, it took two surgeries and nine months to heal and back to work. They and many of their friends that are cops can tell you stories you won't believe. Punched, kicked, spit at, and stabbed with sharp objects, not just knives. My cousin Sunny was a cop. He has passed away. But he was resisted many times. I have a friend that is a cop that killed a man with a shotgun walking down a street shooting windows out of apartment houses. I have another friend that is a cop that did shoot a man running away from him that was dangerous and had just robed a small store. He shot him in the leg to stop him. He told me the shot was high up near the man's butt and he was screaming "You shot my leg, you shot my leg". You won't believe this, but he said to the guy, "you are lucky, I was aiming for your balls".
I have been to New Year's parties with the cops, and many times at my brother in laws house at Christmas many of his police friends would stop by. There may be a few bad ones, but the dozens I have met were all good people. Good husbands and good fathers. Sure, there may be one bad one out of every thousand cops. But I never met a bad one. I know one undercover state cop too. And two federal marshals. One of them is a national civilian champion pistol shooter that taught my brother and me how to shoot. He used to transport prisoners back to their own countries and jail there. And sorry to say, but he has passed away too. And my wife has one cousin that is FBI. He only works in an office keeping track of terrorists.
If they all went on strike, the good people might treat these demonstrators a lot worse than the police, and who would stop them? No cops to save their ass.

At least 5,600 people have been arrested in cities around the country since demonstrations broke out protesting the death of George Floyd, according to a tally compiled by AP journalists from police department press releases, police agency Twitter activity and media reports.

The protests began after the May 25 death of Floyd, a black man who died in Minneapolis after a white police officer who is now charged with murder, Derek Chauvin, pressed his knee into Floyd's neck for several minutes even after Floyd stopped moving and pleading for air.

The arrests come as protests in some cities become more violent and as police and governors are urged by President Donald Trump to take a stronger hand in quelling the demonstrations.

In Minneapolis, where Floyd died, some 155 arrests have taken place. Some of the biggest cities in the U.S. have made a significant number of arrests, including nearly 800 in New York City and more than 900 in Los Angeles.

Here is my take....after a while people will "tire" of this behavior.  Just like all the other chit that has happened in the past year.  The Russia thing, the impeachment.  There will be something else to take the place of this....I would be willing to wager that there will be 2 more "major" happenings before the election.  And....President Trump will be dragged thru each one.

A second man has been charged with murder in the fatal shooting of retired St. Louis police Capt. David Dorn amid violent protests over the death of George Floyd.

St. Louis resident Mark Jackson, 22, faces second-degree murder, robbery, burglary, stealing charges, along with three counts of armed criminal action.

Feds Bust Second Suspect In Minneapolis Police Precinct Fire



According to the allegations in the complaint, ATF investigators reviewed a video posted on Robinson's Snapchat account that shows at least one individual appearing to make a Molotov cocktail while multiple unidentified voices provide directions on how to make the device. During the video, Robinson typed several comments, including "These guys have never made a Molotov... Rookies," and "We need gasoline." Investigators reviewed another Snapchat video in which Robinson can be seen setting a fire in a stairwell inside the Third Precinct. On the evening of June 12, 2020, investigators located Robinson in the Denver, Colorado area. Robinson was arrested on June, 14, 2020, in Breckenridge, Colorado.
