INDIANAPOLIS — Authorities launched a homicide investigation Monday into the house explosion that killed two people and left numerous homes uninhabitable in an Indianapolis neighborhood.

Indianapolis Homeland Security Director Gary Coons made the announcement after meeting with residents affected by the Nov. 10 blast and just hours after a funeral for the husband and wife who were killed. The couple lived next door to the house where investigators believe the explosion occurred.

"We are turning this into a criminal homicide investigation," Coons said, marking the first time investigators have acknowledged a possible criminal element to the case.

Search warrants have been executed and officials are now looking for a white van that was seen in the subdivision the day of the blast, Marion County Prosecutor Terry Curry said. Federal authorities are offering a $10,000 reward for information in the case.

Spontaneous reaction to a video?

Well, if it was a Sponge Bob Square Pants video, it is totally understandable!

I heard about this...I dunno why Homeland security is involved... from what I heard on the news this sounded like a three way triangle with a jealous ex husband and a convict involved.

Things that go "boom" get BATFE involved. BATFE is part of Homeland Security.

I'm still waiting for them to blame fracking as a way to shut it down, claiming it was a methane escape that accumulated in the basements of these homes.

Don't give them any ideas.

I realize that... Just my surmise that is this is nothing more sinister than a pissed off Ex husband instead of a foreign terrorist.

Oh, I definitely agree. I think the Feds have there fingers into way to many crimes which should rightly be the sole province of  local law enforcement agencies. I'm not overly thrilled about the rapid expansion of Federal Law Enforcement agencies.

I'm pretty sure the Founding Fathers had no interest in a National Police Force either. I remember reading somewhere that there is actually a legal prohibition against the establishment of any kind of a national police force but can't remember where I read it. It was the reason that the FBI was originally founded as an investigative agency with very limited law enforcement powers.

As far as I'm concerned the only Federal law enforcement agencies should be the Federal Marshall's service (this is actually authorized in the Constitution) and the FBI.
